I have seen both the aqua hound's tooth vinyl cover or a cover board on the spare tire in the trunk. Which of these originally covered the tire from the factory for a 71 GS?

So it could have been either one?

None of these cars ever came with a spare tire cover. They came with the tire board.

So is that board aqua splatter like the trunk or is it hounds tooth? Trying to get it as original as possible.

My OPGI catalog (yeah I know, ridiculously expensive) shows both a gray splatter and a hounds tooth pattern cover board for that year.

I personally have only seen completely black ones and ones with the turquoise splatter on them.

I use the tire cover just because I like its look. I sold a cardboard cover to a friend several years ago.

That's fine, just don't put it on the show field. A lot of guys use them for exactly the same reason.
