I'm working on a few carb projects over this coming winter and wondered if anyone on the board had a source for QJ re-coloring/plating. I found a local shop that charges ~$150-175 but I've never seen the results. Anyone?

Thank you, I'll have to check but I think I'm set for linkages, brackets etc. I inherited Norm Dihles carb parts, he had a lot of parts and brackets plated sometime before he passed...just not main bodies and lids. It's unbelievable the amount of new parts I acquired. I'll contact you if/when I run short.
Had Techg8 do 3-4 carbs for me, bodies and hardware. Each is a work of art, and get ALOT of attention whenever the air cleaner comes off.......aint gonna lie. Priced right, and done right. Check my prior posts for pics, these things sparkle like a brand new dime.
to plate your parts do u stick them in something like a kelm. Or is it first dip it in etching then some liquid metal and electricall charging body and dip.?
What is the correct coating for the accelerator pump lever. I thought it was a almost army green not zinc
I think for the later, 75+ M4M carbs, they're coated with kind of a flat green Teflon.... the accel pump arm, and some other linkages like the choke pull offs, etc...Those generally clean up on a good core enough to re-use as is. If not, I have Ken do them in yellow like 4MV carbs..
This is correct. I can also have the parts that want a flat green finish Olive Drab Chromated. Its a little darker than the teflon, but flat finish and green.
Yip, for 1 small part for me an additional set up charge wasn't worth while. So, as you can see I did all mine in zinc-Dichromate. DL
Some of the small parts started showing up in the green Teflon clear back into the late 1960's. It's a difficult finish to duplicate, and not needed for most restorations. If you want to duplicate that finish, on a pump arm or choke link, etc, they will have to be cleaned, electroplated, then painted with a green paint similar in color to the factory Teflon coating. I'm don't know any way to exactly duplicate the factory Teflon finish, but we are able to get pretty close. One carb builder that I know claims John Deere green paint is pretty close, and that's what he uses. I think it's to bright and shiny, so use a semi-gloss green here, if and when the owner of the carb requires that finish. Not responding here to get any of this work, we're BURIED in restorations, and don't want any plating jobs at this time.........Cliff
If you are going to do it yourself I would recommend the Caswell Plating kits. They have a CopyCAD kit that can be used to chromate the way we are talking about. I have used their kit with success on my own stuff. But the chemicals and stuff were too much hazard for me at this time. I got rid of it all for that reason only. The results were quite good.
