These mysteriously disappeared during the rebuild on my friends soon-to-be 455 convertible '72 Cutlass. I haven't been able to find a source for them or their dimensions to replace them. They are the 4 pivot bolts

    Thanx

GM still carries them if you want the ones with the shoulder and end taper.

I think GTO s were the same but verify so try www.amesperf.com.

The GM book I checked at lunch showed 65-70 and then '71 but didn't mention '72.
The 65-70 part number is the only one available from the dealer (at $9.63 ea.!!)
I could very well be wrong but I thought front and rear bolts on the control arm were diferent sizes.

www.opgi.com shows them to be the same for an A body Buick from 64-72.

CH 21441 ($$4.95) I would think Olds which they also cover would be the same.

If you want to be sure call Jim Michael at Classic Olds (336) 766 7845 and order them from him.

Sorry for the alarm. My buddy found them at Year One after he called them. They weren't listed in the Olds section. He found them in the Buick section.

    Thanks again for the assist.

Well, you should have waited to order them. I have a box/barrel full of them. Dismantled so many cars I think I have 500 lbs of screws, bolts, nuts, clips, etc. I am sure others would have offered them to you from this site.

    George;

I need some bolt and clips for my resto. I am looking for upper and lower control arm (front and rear), rear sway bar to control arm bolts and the zinc washers and nuts for the upper control arm shafts (I believe they are the replacement shafts, large hole with nut).

I have all the bolts and nuts; however, some of them are rusty and need to be refinished. I was going to purchase the black oxide kit from Eastwood to redo them. If yours are in good condition and do not need refinishing, I would be interested in buying some.

Also, I need some clips for the brake lines to frame. Two of mine are rusted through, the rest I can repaint. I would like to get all new screws for the clip to frame mounting.

That is my list for now.

Do not waste time on those. Get new ones from OPG as above. I think they sell the correct clips also. I would just save the old ones just in case.

    If not try

I agress with Jim (what a surprise!). Mine would have to be refinished and are old originals. I know certain bolts/screws are not available as new so that is why I keep the old ones.

    Email me directly at GStage1@buickperformance.com

if you need something that is not available as a repro.

Front upper control arm bolts (with splined ends) you can get from GM, P/N 381909, need 4.

Front lower control arm bolts (4), REAR lower arm aft (2) and REAR upper arm forward (2) bolts are available from GM, P/N 9421430.

REAR upper arm aft control arm bolts are not available from GM, but are the same as 9421430 bolts except no pointed tip. The 9421430 will work if you can't find nice original.

For nuts, any good bolt supply house will have the METAL locknut in any size you need (yes including the upper forward arm shafts), they are identical to original and nicely plated to boot. Cheap too. They will also have the washers with the slight bevel to them.

Rear swaybar bolts are nothing more than the standard bolt you can buy at any bolt supply house. Identical. Sorry don't remember dimensions, just match up your old ones. Don't forget to shim swaybar so you don't load up suspension too much (you don't want to pull controls arms together too hard, causes binding in the bushings), I have aluminum shims here if you need some.

While I'm here, the power steering box and (455) motor mounts use the same bolts, so you need 5 GM P/N 399803. They just happen to come in a box of 5.

The REAR lower control arm forward bolts are the odd ones with the larger head, try to find good used ones...no corrosion allowed, don't forget to use some anti-sieze on the bolt shanks when you install them, if you ever need to go back in you will be glad you did...

Now the only reason to buy GM is to get the correct STYLE bolt, really any grade 8, 1/2" bolt will work for your suspension, and will be much, much cheaper to boot (ie, 1/10th the cost). Guess it depends how fussy you want to be (for your car, I would buy GM stuff!!)...also, don't forget when you buy bolts through year one or where ever, they just get them from GM and mark them up so you are further ahead to buy right from GM, no shipping. Make friends with your parts guy, you'll need him again....

As for saving old bolts, great idea, I do it too, lots can be blasted, NDT'd, and then recoated to be re-used. make sure whatever you coat them with doesn't cause hydrogen embrittlement as that can cause problems down the road (ie breakage).

OK, thats it, I'm done...sorry for being so long winded!!!

    Welp

If OPGI has them I might stick with them if they are the correct style for the odd ones like with a shoulder listed above. Where OPG was less than $5 the last time I priced these with GM they were about $10 each. So if they are a non specialty bolt like no taper tip, no shoulder get grade 8 and change the color as they will come cad gold.

I agree, although I think your GM prices quoted are high, I paid less than that CANADIAN so something is odd there, if you know your GM parts guy well he will give you a break...

    otherwise, yeah, what Jim said!
