I was wondering how many guys with convertibles are using some kind of sound deadening material under the carpet, and if it makes a difference in a convertible.
    Thanks,

I went to the local carpet store and bought a few yards of the dense foam padding. Seems to work ok. I can't bring myself to pay top dollar for sound deadening material that MIGHT or might not work. The carpet padding is better than nothing for sure.

verts are tough to make quiet. its not because of the floors, but the tops.

    WHEN THE TOP IS UP:
tops are a membrane that moves with the wind, pulsating much like a speaker cone when you are doing 60mph. and all the time they are making noise, they are letting outside noises pass right through them..and lets not forget the top frame. sometimes the squeak a little and rattle a little .... and last but not least, there is a little added noise creeping over the rear seat from the trunk....

WHEN THE TOP IS DOWN: the noise comes from all kinds of places that are out of your reach and your control (the environment).

dynamat and other materials work well to dampen floor pans and side panels (i prefer spray on NOISE KILLER for side panels). but dont expect it to get as quiet as a hardtop car... the vert top is just too noisy and transparent.

you can find the directions that noise comes from with a directional microphone hooked to an SPL meter. the directions will show you that the bulk of the noise comes from above seat level.

it may be more noisy than most cars, but on those sunny days when you are cruisin with th top dropped .... it will bring a grin to your face as someone yells. "Hey, COOL CAR!!":TU:

Who cares about the noise. It's a convertible. Turn the radio up, that's what I used to do.

I would still use the factory underlayment though, to reduce the heat. Just me .02.

PS. I can't wait to hear the noise again.
