Put moldings on even though there messed up but better than nothing for now of course. Have her a bath and cruised around the neighborhood.. Gotta find driver door molding the extra one that came with the car is short maybe for a two car.
So today we lowered the back two inch's Got some air shocks and I had these wheels and tires laying around so we threw them on ....yeah southern California lowrider style but with a slight 70s twist. We also removed the busted up muffler and installed a straight pipe in there and a dummy pass side exhaust tip for looks. It's not even loud being straight piped it funny.
This is looking awesome! What a cool car your son has got to cruise around in. Is he enjoying it and the process?
Thank you Yes he is enjoying it Can you imagine being almost 16 and have a car and a cell phone that you can talk to and say hey siri show me pics of 51 Chevy deluxe and the 1000s of different cars from mild to wild and bone stock my mind would go crazy on the different ideas..... yesterday when we put the first wheel on I said hey Rockies that's his nickname back when I did my firebird I painted the brake drums yellow he said what why. Told him that was a thing to do we first painted it a blue I had he didn't like it so I had a dull silver he liked that look told him wanna try white he said nope I'm sure soon the drums will be off and painted a different color soon. Let me see if I can find some old school pics Here's a pic of my 67 with the white drums
Rockie's car looks awesome, Joe. The Rockets and whites look killer, and the paint looks frickin' awesome after it got the family touch ...... Yellow drums forever!
Haha! Wow, I have never seen drums those colours before, that's very cool! I think it's great what you're doing with him and he is a lucky lad to have such a great opportunity to work on an old classic like that. Especially with his dad!
Well since I pretty much finished the GS my son asked me this morning if we could start working on his 51...he has slowly been buying things for it the last couple of months.. headers ..chrome valve cover...hei distributor...12 volt conversion kit... aluminum radiator..etc..so heck yeah son you want to hang out let's go... Here are pics from today.
I like the father&son thing, and I cherish the moments when my son wants to work on projects with me. He is just 14 years old so working on a car is not yet on the list, though .
Love your build thread. Will you do any hop up stuff with the drivetrain? Those old stovebolts can be made to run. My high school buddy, Harry, had a 55 Chevy with a GMC six in it. (I believe it was 270 cu. in.). He had split manifolds with two carbs and dual exhaust. The head was milled and he had better gears in the rear. There wasn't a stock shoebox Chevy in Miami that could keep up with him.
For now he has just bought the headers for it and some chrome goodies I am making him buy his own stuff so he can appreciate it. I will be buying some odds and ends while we are cleaning up the engine compartment area and start putting her back together like sandpaper primer wire wheels clamps hoses things like that. He does want to do the dual carb set up and the old school offey aluminum valve cover. He just got his license recently so he is ready to roll. He says his will look better than my six cylinder I just laugh and say YEP DREAMS ARE FREE ROCKIES
Amazing man! He is so fortunate to be doing this with you and good on him for saving up and buying that stuff himself. You're right, he will appreciate it so much more. He is will also feel a real sense of accomplishment at the end. Well done on him for getting his license too!
