Seriously, I would have walked out, and have done so when jilted by a dealer for a lot less than $2300! Very few are honest business people. Glad you like the car. I drove a rental last month and was very, very impressed! I also was very impressed with the Camaro SS. Would be a tough choice if I have to choose!

So you are saying the dealer cost of this $48,725 MSRP vehicle is $29,235.
    A $19,490 profit.
    That is pure BS.

All joking aside, a vanity plate would be nice buy I wont give NY one penny more than I absolutely have to for plates. Its a rip off as it is. If I could I would register it in another state just to not give NY the money. I have my trailer registered in Maine just because I can

Im sure they make something on a new car. They would need to in order to keep the doors open. They're not a "non profit" enterprise, but I have trouble believing the markup is that much on what the dealer is paying. I think that what the markup is from the manufacturer to the dealer.

I think you’re right about that. You also got a lot of car for the money.

Agreed. I'm not in sales, but the general rule of thumb is 1-2K markup per $10,000 sticker price. Jason's car rounded up to 50k has between 5-10k in profit, which seems right.

I've sold cars. There were good people who worked with me, and there were the typical slimy salesmen and -women. The GM sucked.

When I had to drive around the block, making the buyer think something was being sprayed on the car (something like "Complete Paint Protection"), when it was only an extended warranty for the paint, I knew I needed to get out. This was for a luxury brand in Fairfield County, CT, so lots of money in the area.

There’s MSRP, dealer invoice and dealer invoice less triple net. Triple net is invoice less holdback, financing, and advertising. This money is to help the dealer with their floorplanning costs. Depending on the vehicle, triple net can add up to some substantial money. Other incentives, such as conquest money, is not included in triple net as are any manufacturer rebates. Buying a vehicle out of stock versus ordering also has an effect on how the dealer will negotiate on the price. Obviously, if the vehicle is hot (such as your Challenger), the dealer will be less inclined to negotiate until the newer models hit the street.

I retired after 30+ years in the automotive industry from a large fleet management company and dealt with a lot of dealers. There are a lot of really honest and upfront dealers but there’s also the ones that give everyone a bad name and those are the ones everyone hears about.

Based on an earlier thread, I'm pretty sure you need a vanity plate that simply says "COOKIE".

I didn’t read all the responses so pardon me if I am repeating this but when I am talking to any salesperson my 100% go to line is:

“GIVE ME THE OUT THE DOOR PRICE”
and if for some reason I may or may not apply for discounts we need to do that now over the phone & don’t let them hook you into “you need to come in to figure that out” BS!
I would have agreed to do the survey again oil changes or not and given him both barrels that time around,he’d be WISHIN he still had “8’s”!
Yeh “it’s just business “ until they get a taste of their own medicine.
I had one I had done the “out the door price on” & thought we were done “oh and of course as you know mister Fritz all dealerships down the road charge a $700 advertising fee, standard practice ya know”
“So YOU run this business and advertising is part of running a business but YOU want US to pay for your responsibilities and decisions YOU made?”
I told him very calmly....I don’t care what #’s you move around OR what you call it but after blowing our whole day and our trust it WILL be the out the door number or we will go elsewhere.
Another trip to the managers area “they said you are already getting a great price and they have to charge everyone that” I stood up immediately, told my wife to pack her stuff up and we left and never dealt with that dealership ever again.
Those SOB’s would get so many good referrals & repeat customers if they would just STOP trying to slide things in on the backside of the deal (literally).
Treat me honest you have a customer for life, play games & enjoy playing with yourself because we are GONE.

Yeah there is no way the dealer made 19k or even 5k on the deal. The initial sale of the car is a loss leader. The dealer makes their money on service and parts after. Been that way for yrs. The challenger may pull more money being what it is but not by much .
