I looked the motor over as well as possible and everything looks bone stock except the paint. Fuel pump, carb, factory manifolds, everything. I hate to be negative but if Yunik built a 600 hp nailhead I dont think the one in the museum is it, and if it is it's the best sleeper ever.
Old thread, but here goes: I seem to recall reading that using a custom cam to swap the intake and exhaust valves roles could really wake up the nailheads. Maybe it was Tommy Ivo that did it when he used a supercharger - can't remember for sure. Also, maybe they can be stroked with good results. o No:
Pictures of the "reversed" Nailhead have been posted here before. It actually didn't work all that well. I personally don't believe that an unblown Nailhead could be made to produce 600 hp on gasoline without redesigning the heads. I will concede however, that 'ol Smokey was a hell of a mechanic. The sign on his shop was "The best damn garage in town." It was.
