skylark rear end

    what rear end is in a 65 skylark 8.5? will it handle a455 asa crusing car no dragstriping?what other rear ends will swap into this skylark(posi)?/////i know you guys must have answered these before but i cant find them thanks again pete

    65 did not have an 8.5.

    It would be an 8.2 rear.

    As far as I know, posi was an option in most cars. It's not standard in many. Even on GS's it wasn't standard. You have to take the cover off and check.

    8.2 rears are tough to get parts for. You'd probably be money ahead and have a better rear if you could find an 8.5 and work with that. It will be 1" wider overall, so 1/2" on each side. Lots of them around. Look for painekiller on this board. He or his father usually has one or two lying around. Or you could try and find a factory 65'66 12-bolt. I see them on ebay.

    Depends on the model, carb., optioned or standard rear. and sometimes SCo.

    In general skylarks would not be posi but GS cars often were and sometimes were standard.
