After being away from the Riviera for 9 weeks, I was finally able to get back to it. I primed the pump with the distributor out and then retimed it, getting it to run nicely again.

I took it out for a nice drive around town and a few tire chirps. Upon returning to the house, I verified timing once again and parked it.

I was putting stuff away in the garage, looking for something to do. I got all the way to closing the hood once again, listening to it creak and moan as I set it down. A new light bulb went off in my mind so I started using gear oil to grease the hood hinges.

Really simple trial and error, I added oil in different places until it stopped creaking. Now I have a silently closing hood, and I’m very happy about it. The simple and easy but quality fixes are the best.

Any other happy simple fixes you guys have encountered?

I was trying to figure out why the passenger door window would only roll down and up from the driver's door in my '70 Caddy. After taking it apart and finding no power to the wire to the switch on the passenger side, I flipped the child safety window lock on the driver's door, and voila. Fixed.

Squeaky door hinges drive me NUTS. IF let go to long wears & breaks things. Even a little spray with WD40 or PBlaster will quiet them down, but best to use a drop of oil or rear gear oil.
