Guys, I appreciate the discussion and interest in the car I have listed on Ebay. Pretty much everything is fair game when one lists a car on Ebay. However, not knowing if any existing or potential bidders read the things written at this site, I feel compelled to respond to the inference above: I do not know any of the bidders that have bid the car to $71,000, period. I assume they are bidding against each other to own the car. Please, comment on whatever you like, but do not suggest that I have in any way arranged any of the bidding in this auction.

    Reserve

Dan,the fact that you have told some people where the reserve is doesn't make you a criminal. No one is saying its rigged, there's nothing wrong with getting a little help from your frineds  The reserve only separates the men from the boys.....Chris

I think it's a fine car. Just what keeps rolling around in my head is that you can get a brand new Corvette Z06 rated at 198 mph for $61K. I would think that the price of the new street killers would hold down prices of these fine old cars to some extent.

I know Dan personally, and can't imagine him shill-bidding the car. It's just not his style. I think he's having more fun seeing how high it bids. It's not like he's a speculator or needs his ego stroked. He's got a small fleet of fun cars he bought when they weren't so cool to buy, of which this is only one. The ones he plays with most are the ones that still aren't cool to own! (at least by this site's standards)

I think it's the resale that's drives some of this market. I know I will buy a 60's car before a 90's car for that reason, and the fact that I can work on an old car.

I think anybody who can pay 71K for a GS can buy a ZO6 too if they want one.

Thanks, Adam! You are one of only a few who has ever seen the car, it has been kept inside so much. I guess this is why I have finally decided to sell it (catch 22): If I drive the car, it's originality will be compromised. If I don't, it's no fun. It's a hard one to sell, though, having graduated high school in May, 1970 (the month that the Buick performance article was published in Hot Rod).

I agree with Harvey. If I wanted it and could afford it, I would just end the auction at $75,000. Just my 2 cents.
    Regards, John :)

    $1.00

If a guy is willing to go $71,000 whats another $1.00 I think this auction will prove a point i've been trying to make for a long time....Chris

I'm going to weigh in again. A car like this still isn't collecting the money that the bids would imply. Maybe someday but not now. Money is changing hands at a lower level.

    explain something to me

All I ever hear is crying that our Buicks dont bring anywhere near what other musclecars are bringing. Everyone says why cant a Buick command the same price as a comparable Chevelle SS or Hemi Cuda. So when a beautiful 40k mile untouched original Stage 1 4 speed come up on Ebay with a $70K plus price, everyone says its gotta be rigged?? How many Stage 1's do you think are left in this untouched condition?? You can restore a car a hundred times, its only original once! There are Chevelle SS's in Hemmings advertised for 150,000 plus and we cant get 75,000 for a Stage 1? You guys cant have it both ways. And just my opinion...I dont believe for a minute that Dan has anything to do with the bidding. Dan is a respected board member. :TU:

If I've said anything to offend, I really do apologize. I want to see these cars sell for what they're worth too. Frankly maybe we're at a crossroads. You can get cars like ours relatively cheap, and at the same time sell them for big money. I don't pretend to understand why, but that is what seems to be happening right now.

This, my friends, is what is wrong with this forum.Nothing pisses me off more than seeing people trash every car that hits Ebay. In all fairness, most of our cars aren't as nice, finished,or rare as alot of the cars that bring this type of money. So,the jealous factor sets in and the bashing begins. I would like to smack every idiot that can take the time to bash someones car instead of just saying its nice. My cars will NEVER be restoration cars and get this...not original either. So I guess when I decide to sell,I'll get all of the approval of members here to get me an honest description so I wont screw fellow members here. I, for one, will not ever again sell parts on here and will only Ebay them. Simple fact,I don't get the hassles from Ebay members as I see on here.I have a 71 GS 350 car that was originally White with Sandalwood bench, auto, column shift with a black vinyl top.As it sits now,its still white and will get a black top but I put a 4 speed and black bucket interior in it. I guess my piece of crap will only bring 100 bucks because the disc setup and posi rear are not numbers matching either. Ooops, I was an ass and kept the number matching motor/trans out and installed a SP 70 built motor guess its only worth 1/2 as much now...To all the negative people on here....Bash away, because you will never get the chance to buy it, I'll part it first as well as my other cars before selling on here. :af: :af: :af:

    As this is my forum....

I feel I need to chime in so what has been a pretty cool thread, doesn't get tossed in the trash....

First off, I think I need to remind everyone that when something is listed on eBay and then linked to this site, it's FAIR game. Whether we want to admit it or not, that's just the way it is and we have to deal with it.

How, you may ask, do you deal? Well, clicking "back" on your browser and moving on to another thread is one way...or just read, take in whatever info you think you can use and be happy all this free information is available...

There's a another way of dealing with it and that's feeding into whatever negativity should arise...

Now, what's NOT fair game is the flame wars and personal insults that have been flying around on a somewhat regular basis in this forum. In fact, it's somewhat embarrassing....

A lot of good points have been made (in this forum) as far as market value of our Buicks and it seems that quite a few people want it both ways when it comes to that. Whether we like it or not, eBay is an important tool in determining the value of our cars, plain and simple. We can either watch enthusiastically as our Buicks creep up on the Chevy's and Mopars in the muscle market or we can piss and moan about it...

I chose to watch enthusiastically and hope I don't have to play referee....

Enthusiasm from one of the few people that recognized the Stage 1 Buick as something special in 1976, long before most people even heard of them, is not fishing. It's called sharing.
