Mac box on the left was my first box. Had it about 10 years and thought this will be perfect, not even close to being full. Well as time progressed it got full. Had stuff piled on top, underneath as well as in front making it difficult to even get into the box. Bought a Harbor Freight roll cart to hold my body tools so that freed up some room but not enough. So I traded in the Mac box for the Snap On. It is bigger and thought that should be good for a while with the roll cart also but, I had to add on to the Snappy box. Now this box is almost full. Man I thought I would not need a bigger box or even need to add on. Box is filled with Snap On, Mac, S&K, Sunex, and a few other brands
My very first "Box" looked like this: I got it used and in bad shape when I was around 16 or 17. I "restored" it and kept it many many years, until I got a much bigger one at Costco. My excuse was, that living in US I needed imperial sizes besides all the metric tools I already owned. Before returning to Germany I got me another box from Costco, this time in stainless steel. ... and guess what: It got filled with tools, also
Not my tool box but my Dad's. He was a tool and die maker for 42 years at one job. A quiet man who let his action speak for him. I had never seen his tool box until he retired and brought it home. To this day I choke up when i see it see we kids never knew he had all our school pictures lined up in the lid.
For one reason or another tools have been coming at me for my entire 52 years. Dad 40 years ago, grandfather 10 years ago, my brothers last year. And 10 years ago my father- in -law’s probably 75-80k in snap-on. Along with my own ongoing pursuit. With 2 daughters the right son-in-law should do well.
Sorry if I’m off topic. My grandfather early 50’s (left) at the Walter Kiddie plant in Bellevue NJ. A few of the largest hydraulic presses in the world at the time. Note the first aid kit.... “a stretcher”! Unfortunately I didn’t inherit the presses.
here is my 68 Skylark tool box. These are the tools I use every week, all stored in my 68 Skylark parts car at the yard where I store my parts cars The green box I have had since I was 17 yrs old
I have a couple stacks of mismatched craftsman collected up on sale over the yrs. I do like the newer roller slides and latching drawers. But the older friction slides are still working probably 35 yrs later. I've looked at some hf stuff (I'm always on the hunt for a Matco taco wagon witht real wide drawer but haven't found he bargain yet) but these are fine. One if my road boxes. My dad got it for me probably 30yrs ago. It rarely leaves the garage any more as most go in a bag or bucket now days.
