Hey, I have heard rumor that Buick made a short water pump for the 350. I am sorta running out of room in my Buick 350 Monza. My fan is less than 2 inches from my radiator, and its causing a heat problem. I want to move the fan back to create more of a vaccume to pull more air through the 4 core rad(The pusher fan isn't doing it). Also, where will I find the associated pulleys for this pump so things line up alright? As always, help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -Jon

:Smarty: TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE (WORKED IN A AUTO PARTS STORE) THERE IS ONLY 1 KIND OF WATER PUMP FOR A BUICK, BUT DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT! USE AND ELECTRIC FAN IN ORDER TO MAKE THE CLEARANCE. OTHER THAN THAT I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU:Do No:

Are you running a Clutch fan?

My 350 Came with a direct drive fan that had a 1 1/2 in spacer on it... Maybee you would be able to "adjust" the length of the spacer so that the fan would be closer to the belts (but no too close :gt: ). I think there was enough room to get about an 1/2 inch or so this way:Do No:

When you that close any little bit could help.

    Hey Jeff!

Hey Jeff, you ever get that posi? As for the spacer, I am not running it at all. The fan is practically bolted directly to the pulley. :pp I am hoping to get a t least a couple of inches... (thats what she said)..... If I can get a little room, I can run a clutch fan. Right now, I am running a stocker fan cause the angle on the blades is less and fits better. Man this thing gets hot! One of the biggest problems I have is there is litterally no room in the engine compartment for air to blow by. This retains a lot of heat. I have been throwing around the idea of a cowl hood to act as a vent for the hood. I can run the car all day without the hood on it.

No... He never called back about the posi. Thats OK though, I bought Sway Bars (front and rear) off Ebay instead. Will look into Posi Next tax time Unless a good deal pops up :Do No: .

Man I knew from the pics you sent that it was a tight fit...lol. What about a fan that pulls more air... I did notice a difference with one of those light weight "Plastic"? fans (not a flex) and that thing pulls Huge air. But you would have to check the clearance from the blades... but at $10.00 bucks for it, Might be worth a try.

Also, don't the chebbie guys have an aluminum rad. for that swap? (Im assuming you don't have one already)?

Call Dan Lagrue at D&D Fabrications in Michigan. (810) 789-2491 He has the short Buick 300 water pumps that can be used on your 350. And if you've got some pics of the 350 in the Monza, I'll take a few!!! :)

I think Greg is right...The 64-67 Buick 300 water pump will fit on the timing chain cover and is shorter than the 231/350 water pump...

But the 231/350 water pump pulley won't work with it because they are too deep...You will need the water pump pulley from the 300 as well...

The 68-70 350 used the short water pump. You should be able to get one at any parts store. Or like someone mentioned the 300 uses the same pump.

I have an extra short water pump. The Non A/C cars had 'em, otherwise they are the longer pump.

I believe it is about an inch shorter, maybe a hair more. But sometimes thats all you need. I wanna say I have the pulley but I can't think where its, and it would only have 1 row anyway. I also have the 1 row crank pulley.

My 69 GS 350 came from the factory without A/C and manual steering.

The pump I have has been through hell but has been cleaned and painted and the bearings and seals seem to be in good condition, there is no wobble at all and it is still kinda tight like a brand new water pump

    Thanks

I think I know of a couple 68/69 Buicks in the yard. I will have to take a closer look at them and see what I can do here. The pump I will get at the auto parts store, and I may look into the 300 pump. Nothing like putting a car together that you cant drive. :) If I can get my hands on a truck you guys will see me at the Nats in this thing. Was there in 2000 and had a blast! Need a truck to haul the thing. 455's dont fit in the trunk of a Saturn real well.....

    Thanks everyone,
