Shocks- swapping out barpins?

My Buick is my avatar- a '59. Front shocks are unavailable for it, but have been looking at some enthusiast-generated cross-referencing lists. One person stated the 1st gen Rivs used the same, and they're close. I do still have the ancient MonroeMatic shocks that came out of it (at least 30 years old). Even the part # there has faded away to non-existent (#2003).

The KYB KG4550 is right there, except the bottom mount. Both have a barpin on the bottom, but the KYB has a 'slot Inside Diameter" of 52mm, whereas my car wants 70mm. The hole in the arm where the mount goes thru is 62mm, so that's not gonna work.

    • I guess I have 2 options: fab a flat disc out of steel, mount it to the A-arm on the 70mm holes, then mount the KYB (rotated 90 degrees) at the 52mm diameter, or

    • Swap out the barpin, assuming my old 70mm barpin fits the bushing on the new shock.

Anyone have any experience/feedback on these options? Are different shock bushings available out there that anyone knows about?
