    Hi Guys,

I need to shim my passenger door out away from the A pillar as it is to close and very difficult to shut. Is it permissible to shim the hinge out from a A pillar or is there something else I need to do. The door fit is perfect but the last 1 to 2 inches before it latches it binds up pretty hard on the new weather strips, I need a little room,

Check and make sure that your bolt plate inside the door moves freely.I often find them to be seized to the door shell. You may be able to squeeze the door out a tadJoe

The weatherstrip was installed last fall so I would think the weatherstrip would be formed in place by now. The door did work properly before the new weatherstrip was installed but the door was removed when the car was having some body work done and painted. the driver door has a strong 3/8 clearance to the A pillar where as the passenger side has maybe 1/8 at it tightest spot. I will have to ask the bodyman if the bolt plate was free or stuck. I do know small screws where put in the hinges to mark the location prior to disassemble.

Sounds like it's in (weatherstrip bind) and forward (1/8 gap). Not unusual to require some fine tuning after door r&r or weatherstrip replacement. Bodywork on door/adjacent panels certainly requires fine tuning. In = hinge to door. Gap = hinge to pillar.
