My favorite shifting TH400 is a 67 442. Probably a 68 or later is about the same. The main
problem I have with most 400s is they are so slow to downshift. I believe this can be fixed
by opening up a valve body hole. There might be a couple dozen valve bodies/plates on my
shelves; maybe I ought to make a list of their origins. Bruce Roe

I find Chevrolets of that vintage to be mundane and pedestrian..........

My brother had a '67 442. It was the first time I was in a switch-pitch car. It made an impression on me.

OK - I'm going in! Well - not right yet, but I ordered an aluminum pan and the TransGo reprogramming kit. I'll probably have to wait until the snow flies. There's just too much winter-prep stuff to do around the house.

Seeing as how I have some time before opening it up, I'm considering trying to score the later valve-body. A used trans is the place to get it - right? Any other alternatives?

I know the new pan will allow me to run the newer style filter, but I also need a newer pick-up tube?

Get the pick up tube from the same transmission you get the valve body from, unless that aluminum pan is a deep pan, then it should come with an extended pick up.

No - I got a standard capacity pan. The Riv sits low, and the roads around here aren't that great. I want to be able to drive it without worrying about hitting the pan.

Almost ready to party. Just need a red-stripe modulator, a filter, a valve body, some fluid, and some snowy weather.

Any recommendations on filters? I'm changing the pan so I can use the later-model filter.

You guys have convinced me to look around for a valve body...
