Second Pertronix failure this year........

    The only time I have had one of those points replacement ignitions fail is after an engine fire.
    If you keep going through them and a verified bad coil you might want to look into the wiring going to them. Running a large spark gap can cause premature wear too.
    I have been using the Crane XR-i along with a five year old Pertronix "flamethrower" coil and it has been working as expected for a few years now. It does require a different than stock GM resistance wire. I believe I got it working with a Chrysler ballast resistor spliced instead.
