Guys, please keep your guards up when you post in the "Parts wanted" section. A member PM'ed me regarding an email they received claiming that he had whatever the member needed and for that member to email him directly. In all these cases, the email never directly mentions the parts in question. That's the first tip off. The email you receive will never mention "1967 GS moldings" or the Edelbrock B4B your looking for as an example. The email will only refer to what your looking for as "the parts" or "the items" or similar. Another red flag is the seller will want you to do business off the board and provide an email address to contact him or her with. The ultimate goal is to separate you from your money. Don't fall for it. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So keep your guards up and do your due diligence!
"If it sounds too good to be true, it (usually) is" should be on every piece of folding money and every check.
What sucks is these scammers are hard to locate (most are in some shithole turd world country) so they are never imprisoned.
I got a call about a week ago letting me know that I had won the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes 3rd prize!$1.5 million and a Mercedes Benz in my choice of color. The guy goes on and on about how the prize will be distributed to me and all of the people that will be in contact with me, yada, yada, yada so on and so forth until he tells me that there is an $850 registration fee! LOL I was like OH, this is the scam, the registration fee!? The guy still in character tries to tell me this is the standard operation when you win the sweepstakes. So I agree to pay the "registration" fee, as soon as the $1.5M check clears. The guy says the best he can do is half now and the other half later. I tell him the best I can do is all of it after the check clears and I said that I would even pay double because of it being a late. Still in character he says, no we have to have that fee before we process your winnings. So I say again, yeah, the "registration fee" is the scam isn't it? This is when the a$$hat gets irate and tells me to "get the f-word off of my phone!" And I tell the a$$hat to f-word yourself you piece of sh!7 scammer!! Anyone else win the PCHS?
I have a snow plow on Craigs list . Ad says NO TEXTS and price is FIRM and don't try to negotiate the price without at least looking at it . I get a A$$HAT that texts " Whats the Cheapest you will take for the SnowPlow ? so I tell him $25 less than the listed price if he picks it up in the next 24 hours. I just got another text saying " Great , I will send you a check and add some money for my movers . Take your amount and give the rest to my movers . OK ??? " I said Now that I know your a scam the price is $ 2000,000,000 you IDIOT " . The best is he is in California San Fran area . and I'm in SE PA Didn't realize they get a lot of snow in San Fran
That parts scam was going on over at the AACA board for a while. They would kick the guy off. And he would come back with a new user name. They kicked him off at least three times.
Over 12 years ago, I learned pretty quick after I got burned twice in one week. 2 different sites and got police involved both times which ended in crooks favor. $2,600 gone

We've all gotten the emails about a Prince from some far away country that died and you have been found to be his beneficiary to his estate. Just this past week they caught a local guy that is tied to the SCAM. Currently in jail on 278 counts of Internet Fraud. They found that he was working with someone overseas and actually sending some of the scammed proceeds to that person. They stated they found fake Western Union and Pay Pal pages. I've seen other websites require certain amounts of post before one can sell parts. If it seems to good to be true It probably is
The funniest one was when a guy with a very East Indian accent claimed he was "inspector" Jim Morrison of the RCMP and that there some back taxes owing. He wanted payment immediately at the phone number specified (this came through on my answering machine) and if I refused, he had no control and I would be at the department's mercy, "so help you God". Uh huh...he wanted iTunes cards, Euros, and all sorts of other mediums except Canadian dollars, which last I heard is the only thing the CRA wants. I was going to call back and pull his chain, but I've heard they then use your phone number as a server which will show up on all their calls. Didn't need the trouble that could bring, so I forwarded it all to the real RCMP.
For many years may dad was looking for the "Belvedere" scripts for his 1952 Plymouth Belvedere. On his behalf I placed an wanted ad in the MOPAR Collectors Guide that I subscribed to and included his phone number as he requested against my better judgement. I told him before he sends any money to anyone have me check it out. A guy calls, has 2 near NOS condition scripts. Told my dad someone else was also interested in it but if he sent a banker's/cashier check right away it was his and to call him back the day my dad was to send the money to him. My dad (in his late 70s) sends the check to an address and box number in New York City, calls the guy and is told when the money comes he will ship it the next day. After several months, and I knew nothing about this, my dad asked me to file a compliant against this seller (i.e. like Hemming's) and I asked what he was talking about. He told me what happened but would not tell me how much he spent, and I hate to guess the amount. I explained it wasn't like Hemming's, the guy responded to HIS ad, and why didn't he have me check it out for him. Checked out the address and phone number. Address was a place where you "rent" an actual street address and they give you a box number so it looks like you have a physical address for your business and the phone was a "tracfone" style pay as you go that was disconnected when my dad called a week later. My dad is from the "handshake" deal generation and could only say that the guy sounded so nice and described exactly what he was looking for.
