i was throwing this around for a while with my 401, so about a year ago i started collected all the parts to build a mid mount turbo setup.within the last few weeks i finally got the garrett T67 with a .81 ar hot side mounted with the intercooler mounted, 3" intercooler tubing, 2 " turbo tubing from the rear, csu blow throw carb(great guys), ev carb hat, msd 6albtm box, msd dist(lockout @32 degres),tial 44mm wastegate, tial 50mm bov, exa oil scavengen pump, aeromotive a1000 fuel pump, boost reference regulator,-10an fuel line feed and return, 1/2 sending unit with -8an to -10an adapters, headers with custom exhaust that is a 2.5 til right before the turbo with a borla 2 into 1 than a flex pipe before the mid mount. i have it setup with 7psi. i have not ran this motor with the turbo yet. i am a little ocd at times and if everything isent perfect i wont rush i just wait til i can buy the right part. i did break the motor in after the complete rebuild and the car went great with the 3:73. i am hoping to run her in the next week i am waiting for some parts in the mail, if anyone is interested i can send them all the stuff i research over the last year and a half and give them the parts list to do the same swap. i figure it cost about $5500-$6500 for the parts. that is no labor and i do all my own fab. It has taken me a very long time to finish the car due to money as most people, i dident want to build a car that broke every time i took it out, so i had quick street build a narrowed 9" detroit locker, joe peterson built me a bullit proof th400:blast: , customer drive shaft, and tubular rear suspention and tublar fronts with kore3 hubs and c5 brakes all the way around. i can post pictures, for anyone who is interested and share any tips that i have learned during the fun an great build. still no paint on the car but it is almost ready!! thank you for letting me share my excitment of being "almost done".

    Wow Paul, that sounds incredible!!:TU:
It would be great to see some pics of the build!
Where exactly does a 'mid-mount' turbo mount? near the trans?

drivers side right in front of the rear axle. it is tucked up right near the upper control arm and the lower. made the turbo mounting bracket to mount to the crossmember for the upper control arms.

i am going to download some pictures tonight. i dont know of to many dyno's around where i live in mass. i am looking at right around 450-500hp and 650 ft torq.. i would love 700-800 but i just dont know what it will make till it is on the dyno. the turbo is built for 800hp, so is the fuel system and hopefully the new motor will hold up. worst comes to worst i start blowing head gaskets and have to drop compression. i plan on meth injection which is very easy and very safe so if i do decide to raise the boost to 10lbs i will be safe. this will be ran on 94 octane at 7psi. The biggest thing of keeping it together is making sure timing is being pulled out as the boost is applied. it is one degree for every pound of boost and i can goes as much as three degrees per a pound. the fuel pressure will rise one pound per a pound of boost to make sure it doesnt run to lean.. i will try to get some pics tonight up.. where do i post them? do i attach them to my post?

My brother has a mustang with a vortech supercharger. I didnt know too much about boost but learned some when he did that.

What specs does the motor have SUCH AS COMPRESSION? Stock compression will not like 10psi and not much even of 7psi without a lot of timing being pulled. You'll need a wideband O2 gauge and run a 10.5:1 AFR. Best bet would have been to have the block O-ringed to eliminate head gasket issues but a steel shim gasket should hold some. How about the cam? Wide lobe separations are usually used, as wide as 116*. Should be the start of some interesting builds and hope yours comes out well:)
7psi will add 50% HP so figure about 450max.

10.5 afr seems kinda rich? Or are you just trying to be really safe?

i think i will be little over 450hp, that motor is rated @325 hp and i know the math comes out to around 450, but i have a cleaned up q-jet manifold and from what i have seen i should get a little more. hell i would be happy with 450hp and 600lbs. i think it will be more in the 12.5-13.0 for a/f ratio and a wide band is always nice, egt temp is somthing i watch also. i wont have a issue with 7psi with that motor and that is @ 10.25 compression ratio. when i do slap 10psi i will be hitting it with meth injection. a few reason why the 7 psi isent a issue is the timing will be pulled out with every pound of boost, fuel pressure will be bumped up for every pound of boost. i am running a huge intercooler, one step colding plugs and i have a carb that was built for blow through for my motor for the 7-10psi range. The guys @csu carbs helped me out a ton with advice. These guys do this everyday and build some serious machines. Best $1000.00 i have spent. I am watching big time for detonation and i am not in this to blow it up on the first shot. Second shot maybe..:TU: any one down in mass near boston always welcome to check it out..

    go to photobucket.com.

    Creat account.

Drag and drop all photos into that site. Then you can "link" them from there to here.

Maybe a member can offer to do that for you if you dont want to?

10.25 to 1 is high compression for boost. 12.5-13 afr is very lean dont want to burn any pistons.

With 7lbs of boost and an all stock motor you should be at about 385hp. With a hotter cam you should see about 430hp, and with a cam + heads you should be near 500hp. It'll be an ANIMAL :3gears: !

7psi does seem a little high with the factory compression (it's actually 9.9:1 with the factory steel shim gasket, and 9.3:1 with a Felpro gasket). Do you have forged pistons?

I would LOVE to see pictures, as I am in the SLOW process of piecing together a twin rear-mounted setup for my '64 riviera (turbo(s) wont really fit under the hood of these)

I've got the turbo's and exhaust... need to get an oil and fuel pump (and related plumbing), blow-hrough carb, wideband O2... etc etc etc

:Dou: Careful with that remodelling work, it can be hazardous. Just broke my wrist on my addition to our kitchen. Sounds like you did lots of good research. I'll be out 4-6-8 weeks maybe I can find time to sneek over there to see it. Would like to boost my 425 in my Henry J evenually. Of coarse finishing it is more important. Good luck with all.
