Don't know if this belongs in here but I run a '55 322 nailhead in my Model A. I know most prefer the latter and larger motors but this car was built specifically to be built as if put together in the late 50s. If it is not a rat rod but an old school hot rod with only a couple of compromises made for driveability like the trans etc. The '55 322 nailhead runs a lot of period correct pieces including the Spalding Flamethrower dual point distributor, original SP Tops on 97s which in turn are on an old school Edelbrock 6x2, Wittek clamps, Eelco rail/filter and so on. The motor has custom ground cam, forged pistons/rods etc and has a T5 behind it. Hope it is of interest.
That is a GREAT looking nailhead !! I have a 55 Special 2 dr sedan ( Century clone ) and bought the alum 3 x 2 intake more for show rather then go ! Your engine would surprise many people under the hood of my Century. thanks for sharing Bill
Many thanks guys, much appreciated. I will post a couple of shots of the car later when I have access to my photos. The motor runs strong and already has 5k miles on it. Driving the car from VA to Austin in a couple of months for the Lonestar Roundup.
Here you go, some shots of the car in Detroit.
Very nice. There's something about the nailhead engine that looks so right in street rods, especially when left exposed. What year is your A, 30 or 31? What is the trans and rear axle combo? I have a '29 A 5-window coupe that is stock that shares a garage with my '64Wildcat tha still has its original 401.
That is a sweet ride ! Love the 6x2's on the nail head. Where at in Va ? Hope you enjoy & have a safe trip.
Love it. Back in the dark ages I had a '31 A coupe with a Nailhead in it. It was not chopped and lowered only slightly. I have said this before - there are only three proper engines for a traditional hot rod. A ford flathead with finned aluminum heads and a couple of carburetors, a Nailhead, or a first or second-generation Mopar Hemi.
It is an original '30 coupe. Trans is a T-5 and 1960s Bronco rear 9". The T-5 transforms the car. Put 5k miles on it this past year and will do another 3k in April for the trip to and from Austin.
