    I have a set of rear springs that I think are out of a 67 GS and they are rubber coated. Is this normal? I want to put them in my 64 to see if it will raise the rear a little more than factory.
    Thanks for any help!

    No its Rubber

    I thuoght it was that and tried to blast them but the media was just bouncing off. Checked again and its rubber because a couple off small pieces are exposing the metal and its rusty there?

    I bought a set of replacement springs once that had a black plastic covering over them.

    If the coils aren't wound evenly for the whole length of the spring, they may be "cargo coils", which become stiffer as they compress for carrying heavy loads. :bglasses:

    Maybe they are replacement springs

    These were in the trunk with 1967 GS 400 I bought and assumed they were for the car. The car has other springs under it. I dont think the coils are as large. I will have to measure them but here are 3 pics. I can see a number on the silver part that starts with W3000....and then goes under the plastic. They are just under 13 inches free height.

    Those are cargo coils from something......put 'em in and see how the height turns out. :bglasses:

    cc springs

    Which way is up on these springs? I put them in with the wider spacing up and the car was the same height as the old spring. The old spring was about an inch or so free hieght higher but must have saged more. I can not drive the car but just put them in to see.
    Thanks

    The closely wound coils go on top.......I run those in mine, the nice thing about them is they are variable rate, which keeps the car from sagging when you add weight (such as more passengers). If those are the correct springs for your car, the rear height will remain stock. :bglasses:

    Ed;

    The springs I took out of my '71 are the same type, more like a plastic coating. I purchased replacement springs yestarday. When I compared them to my "originals" they were shorter, thinner and one less coil (approximately). I returned the new ones. I am going to blast the old ones and repaint them.

    I will check the front ones when I am ready to begin that phase.

    I just picked up a set of replacement rears springs for the 70. I got them from OPG for 64.95. The old ones were totally sagged out. Dont be fooled by the height of the new ones when you compare them to the originals. The new ones I put in were actually shorter in my case as well, but raised the car to the proper height.
