I was able to order a case of Valvoline 10w-30 VR1 racing oil from my O'rielly's price was $36 zinc content .013 . Should not be any problem ordering at any Orielly's, my local store is going to start stocking on a regular basis.

I have been using diesel oil in my musclecars since the mid 80's.

I ran an Olds 455 on diesel oil for 10 years and 60,000 hard street miles. I pulled the engine to re-gasket it. The inside looked as clean as the day it came from the machine shop.

    I am sold!

VOA from CD-2 Street Legal Oil Boost (SLOB), from the BITOG site:

"Here is the data from a fresh sample of the SLOB in the pink bottle:

    Parameter: VOA Data (Manufacturer's data)

    Zinc: 4898 ppm (4700)
    Phosphorus: 4921 ppm (4300)
    Calcium: 4279 ppm (7800)
    Moly: 0 ppm (0)
    Vis @100C: 29.5 cSt (28)

The lab report also showed 13 ppm magnesium, 11 ppm silicon, 5 ppm sodium, and 3 ppm iron. "

    So that's .49% zinc

    HTH

Oh, and the local Big Lots had them for $1 each.

I emailed Valvoline asking them specifically if Valvoline's racing oils will continue to have zinc in them.

Here is the response I was emailed.

The Valvoline Racing Oils (VR1 and "Not Street Legal"), both synthetic and conventional still carry the proper amount of ZDDP (Zinc and Phosphorus) safe for applications requiring these additives, such as flat-tappet cams and more aggressive cams. Using the Synpower Oil Treatment will suffice for the Zinc additive in a regular passenger car application, but in order to meet the specs for the flat-tappet and aggressive cam applications, the Valvoline Racing Oils are strongly recommended for use.

    Thank you,

    Valvoline

DELO is still at the CI rating with high zinc levels.

Valvoline has two different racing oils, VR1 & conventional. From looking at the Valvoline site there doesn't seem to be a big difference. The difference for me is I can buy VR1 off the shelf at Napa, the conventional needs to be ordered.

    Does it make a difference?

Got the 72 GS Stage 1 out yesterday after a fresh oil change. 78 degrees here in N IL, unbelievable! Anyway, I decided in the end to go with 10w-30 Conventional oil, with a bottle of the Comp Cam additive. Valvoline website claims .08 zinc currently in the conventional oil, so add the additive and that should give enough zinc.

This car is such a beautiful stop lite to stop lite runner. It pulls away from everything without even hitting it hard or chirping the tires. Got to take advantage of that nice weather!!!!!!!!!

I remember back in the '70's when motor oil was rated "MS" and my dad used to say "oil is oil.....what's the difference!"

For now, I'm sticking with the Valvoline Synthetic for the Buick. :Dou:

I use Synthetic lubricants in all my cars front to back.
Because of the low Zinq anti-scuff in normal synthetic engine oil I have always added an 8 oz bottle of GM Camshaft break in lube every oil change with my synthetic engine oil.
This Valvoline Synthetic Synpower Oil treatment has very high Zinq at .27% which is great.
I am thinking of buying a case of this stuff instead and not using GM Cam lube anymore?
Does anyone know what Zinq % is in GM Cam break in lube for comparison by volume?

Has anyone determined if the GM EOS has had the zinc taken out of it or not? Earlier in this thread, someone said they heard it had been changed, then someone said it was just changed for CA. Anyone know the facts? I just ordered some to put in all my cars (I have 5 old cars to deal with).

I have read tons of posts and articles on this subject and what I am finding now is that all the additives and oil everyone has recommended that still had zinc in them have now been swicthed over too--including the Rotella and other Diesel oils.
Does anyone know for sure of any oils/additives that will continue to have the zinc in them? I have a car with a high performance big-block engine in it I recently built and I need to get something in there before I trash the cam.

I have switched to Valvoline Racing 10W-30. Has a good amount of zinc.
I understand that oils with a high zinc will need to be labels for off road use.

May end up not being readily available at Advance, Autozone, etc as they don't want the aveage Joe putting it in his Camry and poisoning the cat.

STP has a new "oil fortifier" out that says "with ZDDP" right on the label, and something about for older engines. It doesn't have the gorilla-snot consistency of the STP we all know and love.

I noticed Wal-Mart now carries it. And hey, Richard Petty endorses it!

My head still spins when I read this thread.

This oil (and or) additive is good.
    No, It isn't
    Yes, it is.
    No, it isn't.
Well, it was, but now it's not.
Some of it is good, but good luck finding it.
It's still good, just not as good.
