Just rescued a 65 sport wagon last driven in 1978. I have no keys and the tailgate glass in rolled up. Anybody have any ideas on how to roll the glass down so I can open the gate. It's a power tailgate.

Dear Demolition man and V-8 Buick long-roof fans,

The tailgate also can be raised and lowered from the 4th knob on the dash (the one closest to the radio.) If the wiring still works and the motor is alive that should allow you to lower the tailgate window.

    Cheers, Edouard

Remove the spare tire cover. There you should find a 3-wire connector to the power window in the tail gate. If you have a power probe, you can send power and ground to the power window motor and lower the window into the tailgate.

Remove the lock cylinder from the glove box and take it to a lock smith. They can cut you a door/ trunk key off that

remove the panel from the tailgate and you can access the mechanism through there you should be able to remove the window motor if needed to allow the glass to move

Thanks for all the replies. I finally got it open . I did as sportwagon400 suggested and removed the panel and unbolted the motor and the window dropped right down.
