Can you use roller lifters with a standard flat tap hyd. cam in a 455 ? or will oil be messed with getting to the rockers ?

No, flat tappet cam lobes are ground with a taper to rotate the lifter. Roller lifters have tie bars to keep them properly oriented, they do not rotate. Using a roller lifter on a flat tappet cam would side load the roller I would think. The lobe shape is more pointed on a flat tappet cam as well. It would be a complete waste even if you could do it.

You're half way there, all you need now is the corresponding roller cam to be able to use those roller lifters and you'll be in business!

Of coarse there are other installation specific things you will also need to go full on roller. Like for instance a cam button for the front of the cam because without that slight angle that makes the flat tappet lifters spin, that angle also is higher in the back so it pushed the cam inward which is why a cam button is needed for a roller so it doesn't walk forward. Probably more than likely will also need new pushrods, but if the engine is a fresh build with the proper corrective machining chances are you would need those anyway.

And if in you opt for more than 500" lift you really should upgrade to roller rockers as well. Also you will need the corresponding valve springs to control the more aggressive ramp profiles that makes roller cams so awesome! Sounds like you're going to be having some fun with an awesome roller cam to make some fun power! GL

Oh you will need new pushrods. The roller lifters are a lot taller. My pushrods with the Morel lifters were 8.725". The Johnson roller lifters have a pushrod cup that is .230" deeper. I needed 8.950" pushrods when I swapped over a few weeks ago.

Yes and yes, will be back 4 more learnabales per say as i go along. thank U very much ...... get the block to what i think will hold !!!
Also wondering about the cam straight line hone, + or - slack wise .......... may sound dumb, but, no worriers the chain can be tighter or looser per the gears. not sure what the proper slack would be.
Also hope this is not to be in anyway in a hhurry to anyone ...... just want toget this thing in perspective ... thanx fellas
