Its been a bit since i messed with a 455 and i have a very low mileage 70 long block that i'm going to bolt some good parts to. Lots of TA stuff i collected over the years.Rings, bearings, cams, intake, headers, msd ect. Going to disassemble, clean, hone, oil mods.My question is i want to use arp rod bolts to have the rods resized the pistons have to be pressed off or can a shop do it with them on?

Might depend on how the shop you select is equipped.

Fairly sure that the guy I go to can resize with the piston attached...he just doesn't like it. Cutting the cap is no problem, it's kinda awkward having the piston flop around while the rod is getting honed...truing up the end of the rod before honing would be the real problem area.

But then, there's no guarantee that you could re-use the pistons once the pins have been pressed through them--sometimes the pin galls on the rod, and the galled pin wrecks one of the pin bores on the piston as it passes through. Or the piston is just distorted from the pressure of moving the pin. Again, this depends in part on the equipment your shop uses.

OTOH, the stock pistons SUCK. If you get "real" pistons, have the rods resized when the old pistons are scrapped. That way you get proper compression height, and suitable compression ratio along with proper quench distance.
