After over 3 years of scratching my head over this (thrice "tended to") '73 Q-Jet, I saw a thread where Rob had articulated a LOT of good input in terms of the problems another member was having with his recently rebuilt carb. I reached out to Rob and he offered to take a look and see if he could figure out what the issues were. After the post office sat on it for almost 2 weeks, (last month) it finally arrived and he tore into it not long after unboxing it. Long story short - and after over a dozen different wrongs were remedied - I'm back in action with a carb that goes right to high idle, (with a divorced choke on a B4B) kicks down to a sufficient idle circut and never lags, bogs or stumbles. This car and it's new power plant are a bear and I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to send Rob another carb. If you're having difficulty figuring out why your QJ isn't working right, you shouldn't hesitate either.
Funny you mention that. Initial start up, right out of the box, after waiting very impatiently for UPS to arrive a couple weeks ago:
@Brett Slater - Sounds great! What gears are you running in that? 3.42? Once I get mine up and running, I need to take my open Chevelle 12 bolt rear end (think its a 2.73) and convert to a posi with taller gears. I know my stage 1 is suppose to have a 3.42 from the factory, which the previous owner blew it out and tossed it back in 2000. Didn't know what he had I guess.
How 'bout if Mom drives & Brett videos, lol. Mom looked awfully comfortable in that seat (of course Mom used to have a 4-sp. GS of her own!).
