Amazing what a little Sandblasting, Painting and Polishing can do!

This thing looked like it was pulled up with the Titanic artifacts, before I started with it, but this is how it looks NOW (after I completely disassembled it, Sandblasted all metal parts, cleaned all plastic parts, Painted base and hardware "Aluminum Silver", Painted Handle "Gloss Black", and Polished the Chrome!) Since it's a Display piece only, I just need to pick up a New trigger from The Parts Place ($20, in stock), to complete it, in the next week or 2! :bglasses:

I almost have a Complete "restored" '70 Console/Shifter (except for the Broken Lid! :Do No: ), now, as I've been working at it. :bglasses:

The trigger from the parts place is only plastic. If you want it to be a better part I sell the pull up trigger in polished alunimum that is and will be the last time you ever need to buy one. http://mrbuick.com/autotrans.htm

And you wont be feeding the people who take other peoples hard work and steal it to reproduce it. You of all people should understand that!

Does the Parts Place "reproduce" the triggers? :Do No: I thought they "bought" them, like OPG does! :Do No:

I really don't want a "reproduction" trigger, anyway! I'd prefer an NOS one, if I can find one, or even a nicer (plastic) one than I have!

The original trigger, that I have, is Plastic, but the Chrome plating peeled off (as they all do, after 30 some years), and I'd like to keep it original, if possible. It matches the Chrome Handle Insert (also Plastic, as NOS original).

I'd like to replace a Plastic trigger with a Plastic trigger, only because they came that way from the Factory, and I'm using it as a Factory Display (Not for Use) piece, only!

I like the Aluminum one that you've made, Mike, but I don't need it, since I won't be USING it, with this (specific) Shifter. :Do No:

 I don't get it. :puzzled: :Do No: I didn't think the Parts Place "reproduced" parts. I thought they only "bought" parts, to resell, like the other suppliers (Year One, OPG, etc.)

I've never bought anything from them (Parts Place) before, mostly because they're way overpriced on the stuff they have, anyway! :Smarty:

Maybe I won't, now, since you seem to know something more about them than I do. :puzzled:

They repro stuff just as I do. They have also "bought stuff" also but in my case they took a part that was being made and "bought one to reproduce it at their own local manufacturer. The guy who owns TPP is a millionaire and when he wants a part made he has it made. (china, tiawan, where ever) He told me himself that he is making other parts. He tried to blow some smoke up my butt about someone else is making my parts and is selling them to all the vendors to make me go out of business.

    :eek2: Ooh, now I see! :(

Sorry, Mike, I didn't know this was such a sore spot for you, and Thank You for explaining! :(

Until I decide what to do about the trigger for this Display shifter, I'll just leave it as it is, for now.

For the other shifter that I will be using in my car, when I'm ready to install it, I'll buy the Aluminum Trigger, AND the Aluminum Handle Insert from you, Directly! :bglasses: :beer

    Hey Frank :bglasses:
This is just the beginning, now that we finally have Nice Weather, and I can sanblast outside! My back yard looks like a White Sand Beach! :bglasses:

Wait 'til you see the next parts I'm blasting, and how they turn out! :eek2: :bglasses:

I Love the Detail work! :TU:

    Scott,
Was looking at your cars under your name. I assume you know the shifter you have pictured is for 73-77 Regal/Century cars. Will not work in 70-2 models due to the arch in the base plate that rests on the floor.

:puzzled: Interesting, since it was removed from a 2nd owner '70 GS350 with Original Buckets and the Original ('70-'72) Console. :Do No: I drove it that way, using this exact shifter, for 5 Years, and it seemed to work normally. :Do No:

Why "won't" it work? Does the bracket mount to the Floor differently, that changes the Shifter angle when it's installed in the Console?

No, I didn't know the specific year for the shifter is from '73-'77, George. Do you happen to have a picture of a '70-'72, that I could see the difference, to know what I need to compare it to? :bglasses:

I do appreciate the lesson, though, Thank You! :TU:

Here is a pic of an original in a 71 GS350.
Your shifter has the arch in the center to clear the center floor pan support found in 73-77 Regal/Century models. You will also notice your shifter does not have the tab on the pass side for a mounting screw. Due to the arch in the shifter, the cable will be bent downward then upward to pass thru the trans tunnel hole. This makes the shifter hard to shift due the bend in the cable. Eventually, you will wear out the cable and/or sleeve.
Also, notice the support brkt on the front of the shifter for the console to screw into is different. Just some info for you to consider. :beer :TU:

That is really weird, that I find out my Shifter is different, as only the 2nd owner. The original owner must have installed the Bucket Seats and Console later, then, from Bench seat. That's the only thing I can figure. :Do No:

I only restored this one to Display, anyway, so it's not too important. I would like another one, though, to USE in my GS, as it gets done this summer! I may just build a Custom Console and Shifter, myself, instead, as I'm taking the car that route (Modern Retro), anyway! :bglasses:

 You expect me to blast a Shell and Frame, Frank? :eek2:

My compressor is only 20gals., and my blaster is like a Paint Gun (with the sand jar underneath).

It took me about 3 hours, and 10lbs of sand, to blast the Shifter, by itself, to the point that I liked! The sand I use is cheap enough ($2/40lbs, White all purpose sand), so I don't worry too much about recycling it, and it fills the kid's sandbox at the same time (the rust goes in the yard, and the overspray goes Everywhere)!

If I get started now, on your Frame, I may be done by July, 2007...
