A friend of mine purchased a really nice modified Cadillac 365 "circle track" engine equipped with four Stromberg 97 carburetors mounted on a log manifold. I see what looks like a nut and stud combination on the right side of the float bowl of each carb. The nuts appear to be tack welded or sealed in place. Any idea what's going on here with the stud and nut combos? (See photos) I'm curious. Thanks in advance for your help.
I'll have to let it spin in my brain for awhile. I haven't rebuilt one of those in over 45 years! Maybe someone else has a better recollection.
This engine is supposed to be a refreshed circle-track engine. Maybe that modification was designed to help control fuel level in the float bowl while turning left??? By the way, the intake manifold that I described as a "log manifold" is a fairly rare Horne (trade name) manifold.
It appears to mirror the sight plug that is present in Holley dual feed carburetors to adjust the float level to the bottom of the hole.
i don't think there's any external float adjustment and gas level is above that also probably - so maybe it's just a drain ? the center fitting looks like maybe it threads out . edit : nope , maybe not - just noticed what looks like a drain at bottom at angle . and i'm just guessing from rochester 2bbl experience . so yeah maybe some kinda float level check . fuel balance tube connection ? NITRO FEED LINE !
