I just stumbled upon these in the latest MCR, as they're in the midst of restoring a 1970 W-31 and appear to be using Ground Up for a lot of their restoration parts. Has anyone used these and are they (or would they have been) interchangeable with the other GM A-Body cars of those years? http://www.ss396.com/chevelle/DSS-R72.html
Brett, They would work fine for our 68-72 cars, as would the fronts,.............................however you need to make sure which suspension you have on the Mid prod 70 thru end of 72 production year Buick A-bodies. I forget exactly when it started (I would need to look it up) but from mid-production 70 to the end of the 72 model year the GS cars with the F-41 suspension came with Pliacells and not spirals. Only the Buicks and Corvettes used Pliacells until the 73 model year. I would hate to see someone spend the money for spirals when their cars did not have them, or get docked points for incorrect shocks. Duane
You know how expensive those things are? And they're not even gas charged! You got money burning a hole in your pocket?
I had a full tilt restored SS Chevelle that someone else restored and I bought it. Save your money, those are junk. $350 for a set, ride like donkey poop..
Also, they are so obviously fake , the spiral cut is only half the depth of real ones. Now, the real ones are nuts crazy expensive.. KYB Gas shocks painted spiral grey is the way to go.
For everyone's information, For the Buick F 41 suspension equipped cars my data shows the following info, The last set of Spirals was from a car that was built on 1/29/70 (From a Build Sheet) and the first set of Pliacells was from a car with a Body build date of 03A (March of 1970) The 1/29/70 probably had a Body build date of 02A, Therefore the shocks changed over somewhere between 02A & 03A (1st week of February 1970-1st week of March 1970) Enjoy.
