Why is it that we all have a chance to help get a project like this underway and (realizing its christmas) BUT we should all be on board here. I know of dozens of cars that could use these if not now later. I cant tell you over the years (25 to be exact) that while at the track or what ever someone or myself has broken a taillamp lens. Buy a spare set now !!!! I know the pain of getting a project started its alot of time and money and for what no support at times. I know there is a lot more than 18 1970 GS owners out there!! I personally am tired of the $400 ebay sets out there!! Alan put me down for a 2nd set. I will have 2 sets to keep around just in case..........................(you have my info)
Sold Seperately I do not own a '70 but I do have a pair of lenses laying around. Both left and right are the same, no? Can they be purchased seperately? It seems I always end up with one good lense and one chipped lense. Just a thought. I want to see this project a success. If single lenses will sell on E-bay I imagine there is a market for piece meal orders. Good luck with your project(s)!
Mike, I can't speak for everyone, but I myself owning 2 70's have 2 used sets and at least 2 NOS sets as back ups already. While I am all for supporting Alan's efforts in gettinig new items reproduced, I really can't personally justify buying more. I know with Christmas here, and the economy the way it is, everyone is really watching their cash. I work in retail covering several states, and I can tell you spending is way down everywhere right now. With tailight lenses still out there (even though they are expensive) I think they might not go as well as some other items people are mentioning. I know myself that I have been trying to find 2 pairs of the 2 illusive side markers (NOS LF & RR) and 2 NOS overflow tanks for a couple of years now, and only having seen one or two come up for sale, didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. I'm willing to spend some money (even offered someone $400 to $500 for a tank, and they turned me down). The $750 just seems way over the top though. With both these items applicable to 3 years vs. 1 year only, I would guess they will go a little quicker. I know the tailights need to be sold so Alan can move of to the next projects, but I can see why people may be holding off. Even though I won't be ordering any myself, I have already reffered 2 people who aren't on this list that have ordered some. As people see and hear how nice they are, I'm sure they'll start moving. After the holidays, and as spring roles around people will be getting more excited about their cars, and a little more willing to part with some cash. Since it's not on e-Bay with a time limit left, they probably don't want to tie up money for a few months while the cars just sit in the garage (at least those of us that have a winter). Jeff
EBAY.......THERE"S THE TICKET Good suggestion, Jeff. I'll be listing some on ebay to try and reach those people too. Alan
Tail light lenses I was the one Alan was talking about who ordered the lenses from The Parts Place and sent them back because markings were missing. If you don't care about the lenses being correct they are a nice replacement. I gave Alan my credit card for a set and if they are as nice as he says I will be ordering another set. Can't wait for the side marker lenses and overflow tanks!!! Ernie 1970 GSX Stage 1970 Stage
71 lenses and grille hey alan put me down for a pair of lenses and a grille for my gs did you have a ballpark #on how much the grilles will be just so i can bugdet the money these pieces are as important as any thanks
Re: 71 lenses and grille Right now, the only projects that are being pushed to completion in the next month or so are side marker lenses and coolant tanks. Given that these items apply to 3 years of cars, they might sell a little better. Its looking like 1 year specific items just won't sell and I've put most of that stuff on hold, even the stuff for my own 67 cars. I think 68 and 69 lenses were the same except for a chrome strip on them so I will likely go ahead with those lenses next. From what I've seen, 68 and 69 owners will buy anything that's available simply because it is available. There may not be a lot of them but they are definitely hungry for parts for their cars. Now they will have availability and quality on at least lenses. I was talking with Mark Reaves of Then and Now restoration this weekend about 70 fan shrouds. Apparently, no one likes the fiberglass reproductions. I told Mark that this was something I definitely was NOT considering. One year only and costly to make. They would never sell enough to cover repro costs. Alan
Alan, I'd like a coolant tank, the yellow one don't cut it with the nice new white washer tank. When are you taking orders?
Re: Re: 71 lenses and grille Very glad to hear that Al !! I'll be at the front of the line for lenses, even though mine are in GREAT condition TODAY. Will likely also be looking at the coolant tank, as mine is pretty ugly, complete, but UGLY... Jim W sold me a nice washer tank, so I better upgrade the coolant tank too. Geez, I don't know when I'll save any $$ for the 455 project! Oh well, my 350 runs well.
Coolant Tank Orders Karl, I do not want to take orders for coolant tanks until I have personally verified that the reproduction is perfect or as near perfect as possible. Thanks, Alan
Update The email last week said this week was on for production. At this point, just waiting for the lenses to show up so I can begin shipping them. Alan
Re: Update Cool...one step closer to the 68's! Al, I have a feeling you're gonna just drain me dry when you get to the overflow tanks, and some 68 pieces... ou:
Lens Update I have been informed that the lenses are on the way this week. Final polishing and detailing was being done. Alan
Called the man. today and my contact (the owner) was out sick. I will be checking back with him tomorrow. Alan
