I bought a Spectra Premium In-Tank Fuel Pumps SP159A1H to drop into the stock tank on my '70 350 Skylark. Unfortunately it did not fit even though it was listed as a direct replacement. My question is does anyone here have any experience with this pump/sending unit and tank figment? I am converting to Megasquirt that's the reason for the pump change.
what about the tank didn't fit? Ime sometimes you have to do some goofing with the straps to get stuff to fit.
I have the original tank in the car, I was trying to replace the sender and mechanic fuel pump with a Spectra Premium In-Tank Fuel Pump SP159A1H. The diameter of the top the Spectra pump is larger than the stock opening in the tank even though the pump is listed as a direct replacement for the stock fuel level sender.
Don't think that's an option, it's not just a sender, it's a pump as well https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sgt-sp159a1h
that pump setup is for fuel injection. Even if it would fit the pump would supply fuel at way too high a pressure for carb. And your stock tank doesn't have the "pan" to keep the fuel at the pickup.
In my 1st post I stated that this car is being changed over to Megasquirt efi, that is the whole reason for needing a new high pressure pump.
U can use an external fuel pump for your fuel injection, at least with the MSD fuel injection. Keep the old tank.
Very strange. This is a picture of the pump, Are you saying that the above pump won't fit into the stock tank? You may need a Spectra tank. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...84,fuel+&+air,fuel+tank+&+pump+assembly,17130
I emailed tech support at Spectra and they told me the pump is a replacement for a stock efi tank!? Or for their efi tank. As far as I know there is no such thing for a '70 Skylark and they don't offer their tank without the pump installed. All the retail websites selling this pump neglected to mention this in their description of the product.
That is what I thought. Too bad you can't just order their tank. This rock auto link shows 3 tanks with in tank pumps. Return the pump and have a look at one of these, http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...84,fuel+&+air,fuel+tank+&+pump+assembly,17130 Or, you can go with the Aeromotive Phantom Fuel system. It installs in your stock tank, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...MI8PuikIPp1QIVXJ7ACh3voA3nEAQYAiABEgJd-PD_BwE
Here is another option, http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/p...t_id=385/category_id=102/mode=prod/prd385.htm
I would return the pump but it's been sitting on my shelf for a year waiting for the conversion so that money is long gone. I'll probably just get the spectra efi tank with the pump and call it a day.
That tanks inc unit is worth every penny of $230. You already have a pump and sender, the tanks inc unit is powdercoated and baffled. You will still save money over an aeromotive setup (which uses a tanks inc tank anyway).
so you are back to needing a tank with the "pan" in it for the fuel injection type pick up. Do you already have the megasquirt setup? What do they recommend for tank and pump with your vehicle and engine?
