Dear Carter experts, I am currently restoring my Carter AFB 3826S (1965 4bbl carb on 300cui). Stupid as I am, I managed to destroy one Idle Mixture Screw. Don't ask. :spank: I could locally source replacements that are meant for the new Edelbrock carbs. From posts on this forum I understand that Edelbrocks are essentially the Carter design. Will these Idle Mixture Screws fit? Thanks for your help Patrick
i don't think i have an older carter around to check but edelbrocks sure . i'll take a couple close up pics and post asap . actually i may have an old carter - looks like it sat out in the weather for about 20 years but maybe ! parts carb . edit : pic #1 - yep got it . one rough lookin carter . didn't bother tryin to take one out . pic #2 - edelbrock #1405 600 cfm carb , one in and one out hope that helps a little .
the parts they are sourcing for you - probably edelbrock #1496 . about $8.00 at summit . you can go to www.summitracing.com and search "EDL-1496" and it'll come right up for ya and you can check it out . i think the old carb may be an OEM pontiac ? left rear fuel inlet . maybe i can get one screw out of that . miracle .
Thank you. They look superidentical. The screw I ahve has an overall length of 37mm, i.e. something like 1,45inch The "needle" alone is 21mm= 0,83inch diameter of 4mm=0,16inch Does this match with your Edelbrock?
superbowl just over , and a couple appointments monday . may be able to check mid day and give ya a couple close measuements .
edelbrock part #1496 looks like pic above . older versions are just regular screw heads and these are screw/torx combo heads . and the older ones i have do not have a taper between threads and tip . measurements were pretty close both ways - i'll list "torx" style . UHL ( under head length ) : 1 1/2 inch - 37.83mm threads : 5/8 inch x 3/16 inch ( OD ) - 16.19mm x 4.65mm tip ( not counting taper between threads and tip ) : 5/8 inch x 3/32 inch (OD ) - 15.83mm x 2.50mm there ya go . as good as i can measure .
if you havent found replacements yet, i have been using this guy's kits and spare parts for some time now. Has never let me down http://www.carburetor-parts.com/
