Removing a 350 and installing a 455

Discussion in 'Street/strip 400/430/455' started by Thomas Patrick, Oct 27, 2018.

  1. I will be removing a 350 from my 1969 buick convertible custom and installing a 1971 455. Will I have to make changes to the engine compartment besides new engine mounts? I have heard that the steering linkage might have to be changed? So my question is will this be straight forward swap?

  3. Thanks for the info. I do have a th400 trans and a 12 bolt rear. So most of the changes described involved changing the trans, so hopefully things will go smooth Thanks again

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

I am assembling a 430 to go in my 1968 Skylark, and am stuffing a ST400, removing the 12 bolt (Canada car) and replacing with an 8.5.

Drive shaft (changing length or custom made) and transmission crossmember may need some tweaking.

I will be happy to discuss things with you as I go along. :)

So, message me if you want.

I’m also going to swap my 350 for a 455 “just” have to rebuild it first…
Is there any possibility that one (or both) of you “engine changers” start a tread about it (your engine swap)?
With pictures on the progress, so dumb asses like me can learn from it.
And don’t be afraid to cheer any mistakes, that just gives all other engine changers a chance to learn, and that it’s not just a 2 hours’ work to do the swap...
I'm sure I’m not the only one that like treads with pictures of “work in progress”
