Just a few months back we lost one of our boys. Not a blood son but a son. He was 23 and had no idea he was sick until he got a terrible headache that forced him to the emergency room. The doctors immediately discovered he had a brain tumor and thought it operable so they induced acoma for his benefit. Further tests the same day revealed cancer had consumed his body. Daniel passed away the same day he got the headache. We were devastated.

Two weeks later I walked in the barber shop to get a hair cut and over the mirror was Daniels favorite number; number 88 his football number. As I sat down in the chair the barber asked me how I was doing and all the sudden the flood gates opened. The barber was most understanding and moved by our loss. I the preacher was ministered to as the barbers few words drew out my deepest pain.
Though little time has passed the reality and certainty of Daniels eternal presence with God has made our loss bearable. The other day I walked into the same barber shop and immediately looked at the number over the mirror. I thanked the barber for leaving it there for it is a reminder of how merciful God was to Daniel and to us. He did not suffer long, he never knew how sick he was, and he did not have to go through saying goodbye. I know God knew what was best and I am so thankful for His mercy and grace.

Daniel no longer has to imagine what it is like to be with God. He is with Him, surrounded by His glory, engulfed in his love. This may be selfish of me but I hope not: If you or a loved one is sick unto death and preparing to leave this earth and enter heaven; please tell Daniel we miss him (Ashley, Joe, Lisa, Harold and many others) but we are at peace knowing that God knew best. Tell him at Gods appointed time we will join him. Until then sing a song for us to the Lord for it will bless Him.
