Ok, I have 2 questions. 1) What is the stock gear ratio for a 1984 Regal LTD, and 2) How can I tell if it has a posi or limited slip without cracking open the rear end. I have not driven this car much.
Most 84 Regals have the 7.5 rear, not the 8.5 used under GN's & T-types. With regular 231 V6 or a 305, the Regal should have a 7.5 rear, & I'd bet gearing will be between 2.41 & 3.08. Closer to 3.08, if rear is factory OD. Without exact specs on your Regal, hard to say exactly which ratio gear. If rear is factory posi, one should be able to jack car up, put on jackstands, & with trans in neutral, a friend holding one rear tire, the other tire should only move with quite a bit of force, & other side tire will spin the same way. Free spinning tires & wheels, one spinning forwards & oppsite side spinning the opposite direction, one has a pegleg rear, as were most such era G-body rears. Good luck :3gears: Roger
