Not exactly a car but a good / great friend is looking for a 1970-1973 Rectrans motorhome. I know it is a Mopar drivetrain and in my opinion not very good looking (ugly) but they were made at the same location as the Kar Kraft BOSS Mustangs in Brighton Michigan. The more original the better and Midwest location would be ideal. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.:TU:

I inspected one and it was rough, to say the least. They are still in the "hunt" for one. Any snowbirds in the South or Southwest ? If you see one, PM me the location and condition. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.

This is an early seventies "Roll A Long" at local yard. Solid body. Reasonably complete. But a Ford Chassis. All of the others with Mopar drivetrains appeared to be Winnebagos or other common makes.

"A motorhome originated with Travco and its Dodge Motor Home/Frank motorhome predecessors, from central air conditioning, to self-contained electricity generation, to a toilet ("Destroilet") that incinerated its own waste." (parts of this quote are courtesy of Wikipedia)"

I saw a few of these on the Power Tour over the last couple of years and they seem cool! This year there was also a 900 HP short Winnebago, maybe from Ring Bros. Nothing is unusual to see on the Power Tour, one of the reasons it's so much fun.

From what I have researched, there are numerous "cool" old RV's out there but they really want a rectrans discoverer. Travco and Argosy had some nice body lines but a big block Mopar drivetrain is one of their must haves. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.

I / we drove 500 miles round trip today to ;look at one and ahead of the weather and it was a POS. I am confident that the owner was or is a drug addict (doper). That is his problem. Anyway, title was "iffy" with numbers and brand name. Then he wanted us to set the timing due to backfire issues. Roof leaks. 3 of the 4 outer compartments would not open. Interior was filthy. Lots of excuses and stories but my friend passed on it, thank god. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.

Big Bufford, Thanks for the lead. My buddy spoke to the owner, it has been for sale for a long time. In my opinion, the asking price is "double" the real value. I hope he waits until Spring before he moves forward.:TU: Plus we are looking at 6-10 inches of lake effect snow the next 24 hours. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan

I agree on the asking price. I've never seen one of those for sale that I would have considered to be in "good" condition. Roof and plumbing leaks are always a major concern on any rv and a lot of times you can't always see the damage. I'm sure it would be a major project. BTW, I don't know if you ever heard of a street racer back in the 70's named Big Willie Robinson but he used to tow his racecar with one of those things. Him and his wife had matching '70 Dodge Daytonas that they drag raced.

Big Willie and the street racers out of LA. I am pretty sure he has passed on but a bowler hat and large man who was into Chryslers. You are correct on the RV's as well. Roof leaks, plumbing issues especially on the older model years. I am trying to convince him about FMC Motorhomes, still with the Mopar drivetrain and they seem to be better constructed and retain some value. Again, Thanks. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.

Gosh my buddy is persistent. Has to be a Mopar but I am trying to convince him to get disc brakes and maybe even fuel injection. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.

They are now looking for a Transvan, mid to late 1980's version. Prefer a Mopar powertrain but looking at all nice examples. Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan.
