In the process of installing a new front speaker in my '72 skylark custom when I removied the dash pad the thing was so brittle it cracked in more then a couple of places. I have it taped up with some gorilla tape and did the best I could but still it bugs me.

Has anyone here taken one to be recovered and what were the results? I've seen those plastic dash pad covers but I'd like to not go that way.

    Thanks

Take it to a local furniture repair or refinishing shop. I took one of mine to an upholstery shop and the guy actually had the madrid vinyl in stock and just covered it. Looks great.

Thinking of having JustDashes do one for my in red,so I don’t have to dye one. Problem is I don’t have a junk or cracked one to send. Are they able to take the sag out over the guages?

Local upholster did mine. Great job and for much less than the replacements (there are no 66's, have to use a 67 if you go that route).

Brian - Just dashes does not just recover - they completely re-do it. It is stripped to the metal and done to look just like the factory. Lots of hand work and the vinyl is put on hot and vacuum set. I guess that's why they cost so much - but the result is stunning. Send in the one you have and you will be amazed. Mine is going on 15 years old and looks new. If you are changing color you should call them. Or buy a junk one to send in and save yours if it is good. See the video: http://www.justdashes.com/

You can probably get a very nice, used 70-72 dash pad for around $200.

I did one of those plastic shells on another car - never looked right. It goes over the old pad, which if its cracked or warped (why else would you need to cover it?) and keeps the shell from sitting correctly.

Suprised to hear so many giving accolades. to justdashes. I was scared away by lots of neg. reviews online. Mainly from Porsche owners. Those guys must be just whiny lil' #*@&'s. lol

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

After the ill fitting aftermarket parts, I dealt with for my wife's '71 Z, I think I may send the dark blue dash for my '69 Z in to Just Dashes.

Bill, I had just Dashes mold them in....they must be added prior to recovering the dash....at the time, it cost $800 to do the complete job!!! Costly, but the only game in town...
