I need some pics of AC & heater box rebuilds, just want to get it right.
Thank You ahead of time for any input.

So far I have taken everything apart, and cleaned the boxes and parts. I had to do some minor fiberglass work on the boxes
but they came out great.Original heater core serviced along with the evaporator at a local Radiator shop, those are good to
go.All rubber on doors in good shape, except on the defrost door, not sure what the staples were holding, any rust areas have been treated, all screws replaced with Stainless steel, going to get the right sealant(thanks to the info here on the site)

You may be better off putting an add here for a good used one. They are not that expensive. You could then see what is inside. Unless a guy has one out of a car it is tough to remember what goes where.

OK, not necessarily the same, but I had my son take pictures when he removed the heater and AC stuff from the '69 donor car I bought. One of the reasons for buying that car was for the AC. I'll hopefully be putting that AC into my '68 Skylark sometime soon. I'll ask him for the pictures. I hope he actually took them.

I just went through all this stuff on my burgundy mist '70 GS and should have photos posted of it in the thread.

I just gutted the donor car A/C and discovered that the defrost door had a foam pad that was stapled on. I'll need to replace that, as it was pretty much crumbled and I vacuumed the pieces up. So, to answer Chet's question, it was a black foam pad. I'm not going to be stapling that puppy when I replace it; if I can't find something similar, I will use thick felt and contact cement. This ain't a Concours car, and if someone pulls the AC to look, it'll be fisticuffs.

Sorry to take so long to respond, even though I'm retired you wouldn't believe how busy I am!

The good news is, the heater core appears to be recently replaced, though the guys replacing it used some hardening sealer, not like what the factory used, to seal the box to the firewall. No biggee there, I have the right stuff.

Thank You for the info. I have completed the resto work on both the heater box and AC Cowl box, I had to fix some cracks in both(no big deal with a fiberglass repair kit) however there is a lot of things to do to get them up to snuff after 45 years,
new heater core, gasket set, expansion valve, restored POA valve, cleaned and tested evaporator,3M black sealer(like the old dumb dumb stuff)Blower motor,Fan resistor, also my pot metal piece that held the heater core was beyond repair,so I had to find another one(bought a complete heater box for a chevell on eBay for 80 bucks)and used that part of it,same part # as my original, and I did staple that part on my defrost door, but I used a piece of thick rubber for that.

Glad I helped. Now, where did you get the sealer? I scraped/chipped all the old guck off mine and discovered that I am out. OPGI doesn't have it, as far as I can tell, and I'd like to get it locally, anyway.
