Hi has anyone know what the true rear wheel horse power for a 430 Riviera 1967 I know they says 360 bhp gross but that seems a bit optimistic has any one had one on a rolling road and got a genuine figure

I think you will be lucky when you have 200 nowadays HP at the rear wheels when your engine is still original and never overhauled.
That 360 HP is a gross HP number.
And it was achieved at 5000 RPM, do you want your lazy American V8 run 5000 RPM for longer periods of time?
The torque number is more important, it's 475 lbs-ft (gross) @ 3200 RPM :TU:

Torque is what you want, HP is for little boy racers in their Golfs and VTEC Civics.

    From older posts:

    For example:

The model year 1971 Riviera (8.5:1 compression ratio) 455 was listed with 315 (gross) HP,
the model year 1972 Riviera (8.5:1 compression ratio) 455 was listed with 250 (SAE) HP.

Here is a video of a model year 1966 Wildcat GS, Nailhead 425 CI with two 4-barrel carburettors.
Rear wheel HP is 257.1 @ 4600 RPM

Buick advertised with 360 (gross) HP @ 4400 RPM.

    Couldn't find any 1966 430 videos.
