I noticed that only TA's neoprene kit comes with the rubber seals. I read from another post that a Ford 460 seal fits perfect but obviously doesn't come with the rubber or anything else besides the two piece seal. Has anyone just installed the seal and been ok? Is there a substitute for the rubber? I have the motor out of the car now and just don't want any surprises because I was too cheap to buy TA's seal

P.S. New to the site, already used you guys a bunch for help on my Apollo 350 project.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Hi Matt it is the SAME part that TA sells as the kit vs what you would buy at your local parts store for a Ford 460 application. TA is nice enough to package it up with the rubber chunks and pins for us. Your other option if you want to buy locally and not wait for shipping is to buy a regular rear main seal kit for a Buick 350 as it comes with the rubber chunks and then also buy the ford 460 rear main which it sounds like you have. Just remember that the pins cannot stick out past the height of the oil pan rail or it may keep the pan from bolting down flush. And be sure to offset the ends of the seal so they do not meet at the junction of the cap and block. I also put some "The right stuff" sealant or RTV in the hole where the rubber chunk goes it helps them slide in easier and I think it helps prevent leaks at this location. The pins are designed to speed the rubber chunks out to help them seal.
