Rear end question

I have a 68 GS400. I am planning to replace my one wheel wonder with a posi.

I found an entire 10 bolt rear in a junk yard close to me... cheap! It is in a 72 Olds Cutlass 4 door. There is a posi tag on it, but cannot get to it.

Does anyone know what rear axles were normally installed in a 72 Cutlass?
Does it make sense that a 4 door would have a posi?

 

If it's the original rear, it should be a 8.5 rear and will fit. No guarantee that it's a posi. You probably should take off the cover and check.

 

Some had posi rears. Check for hitch, HD rad, etc.
If it is, most likely a 2.73

I ran across a 1972 buick skylark 4 door that was equiped with a 2.56 posi rear. Used it in my monte for the longest time. So I would say anything is possible. Jim
