i know that the buick olds pontiac and chevy full size wagons are pretty much the same frame and body in the 80's - 1990. and the caprice and caprice wagon were at least very close if not exact. i came across a 10 bolt 8-1/2" posi rear end from a 91 caprice 4 door car, the price was right so i'm getting it either to put in my girlfriends car or to resell. my question is since in 91 the caprice changed body styles, will it still bolt in place and fit? my girlfriends hearse wagon will be getting a 355 posi if this works to go along with the overdrive trans, plus all wheel disc is also a possibility. it would be a nice set up incase i find a good gn engine complete w/ harness and computer, or a good deal on a 455 buick. i'm working on getting the olds out of this buick.

As far as installing the '91 Caprice rear in the '61 Hearse(?), the Caprice rear will not bolt up, not sure if that is your question.

    Interchange...
The '91 Caprice r/e should bolt up into any '77-96 GM B-Body, with coil spring rear, & should also bolt into any '73-77 A-body (exc clamshell wagons). The wheel bolt pattern on the later Caprice & Roadmaster rearends is 5 on 5. Most (but not all) '73-77 A-bodys had 4 3/4 bolt pattern wheels, so wheels would have to be swapped.

this is going in my girlfriends hearse 82 lesabre wagon, not my 61. the question is will a 91 rear end out of a caprice sedan bolt into her 82 lesabre wagon. i know at least the 91 and up wagons had wider rear ends then the sedans about 3" i'm told. but i'm not sure if the older wagons like her 82 are differentfrom the sedans.

I think it'll bolt in because some of the box body Caprice guys suggest grabbing rears out of wagons for better rear brakes, however will an 82 and an 91 sedan rear swap, if they will... then it should work. No promises though, I am a collector of internet parts rumors.
