Rear End on a '72 Buick Skylark?

I'm a little confused about the rear end on my '72 Skylark Post Coupe. My car has a 350 4 barrel with a TH-350. I had originally assumed that she would have come with the 10 Bolt 8.20 BOP rear axle, but according to one of the posts here, '71-'72 cars came with an 8.50 rear. Would this be a special Buick only part or is it an early version of the corporate 8.50 10 bolt that was used in the Regal GN, and other hot G Bodies?

What is a good source of ring and pinion gears if one is looking for ratios higher (numerically lower) than 3.55?

It would be an 8.5 corp. good soure for carriers would be staion wagons with tow packages, chevy caprice, some pick ups. JKaz

Yes this is the same corporate posi center section . the posi unit fits many different carriers including the GN . The 8.2 was 70 and before. you can pull a 3 series posi out of any caprice or T Type ect and put it inot your housing. ALso any after market posi 8.5 will fit . I have a Governor style posi from a 92 light duty truck in one 71 housing.

just be careful what you get for parts as 88 and up gm changed some
axle spline counts on 8.5 rears so some posi units will not be usable with your axles

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

    71-87 are 28 spline and 88-up are 30 spline.
