Hi there can anyone ID this rear end? 12 bolt from a 1970 A body car supposedly. Looks like an olds version to me

    Type O 12 bolt confirmed.

Post the 2 letter code from the passenger side axle tube and I can tell you more.

Advertised as a 2.73 but that ratio does not exist in the Type O. It is likely a 2.78

Doubt that is even for a Olds 12 bolt rear probably a BUICK 10 bolt 8.25 rear which looks like pontiac and olds 10 bolt cover rears and resemble pontiac too.
68-70 Buick had 2.73 gears with a BOP pontiac cover.

What do you need for your 12 O rear? Jim

    Hi Jim,

I don't actually need any extra rear ends but I buy and sell stuff to make spare money so I would have bought it if it was a Chevy 12 bolt just because Chevy guys will pay good money for them.

By the way the moser 12 bolt you built me is holding up well to a twin turbo 383 making 1000 hp at the tires.

The picture in the original post shows round 12 bolt cover distinctive of the Type O does it not Jim? Plus the ears on the bottom of the housing are there. Can't see that picture depicting anything but a Type O differential.

There is no pic in the kijiji link just in the original post. Did you look at the picture? It's a 12 bolt cover.

    The rear pictured is a 12-bolt O-axle.

12-bolt O-axle = The housing is cheap, but the parts are expensive.
12-bolt Chevy = The housing is expensive, but the parts are cheap.

    Still a little cheaper to build a 12-bolt O-axle.

No I was talking about the part that he had listed the 2.73 gear on craigslist or something. Look again at his post it has a like to a ring and [pinion for sale. THAT is what I was talking about not the rear cover picture which is a 12 bolt O rear. Jim

The picture is not in the ad but is the part advertised in the ad and in the link.

The ad states that it is an Oldsmobile under make. Poorly written ad as the header reads BOP.

Yes guys the add was for a BOP 12 rear end he thought it was a 8.5 but when I asked for a pic it was an olds 12 bolt... I may buy it if I can get it really low $... Someone 10 years from now may need it badly.
