I am installing rear control arm bushing from Summit Racing and have a question. Their were 2 different size spacers that came with the kit. One was thinner and but the opening was smaller and wont fit over the end. The other fits over the end/bushing on the arms but thicker (see pic). So far I have installed the upper and lower control arms to the frame using these . They all needed a little persuasion but went in and got as far as installed the lower passenger arm to the rear with the bushing. I cant seem to get the driver side in (too tight). The car didn't have spacers when I pulled them out. Am I doing this right, do I need the spacers? Does anyone use them? Arm I using the correct spacers since the end is not flat? Thanks
Are these stock arms? No spacers should be needed. Can you post a part number from summit or a picture of the bushing?
yes they are stock... I've read most people say to use the washers to prevent additional rear "sway" around cornering. the Summit part number is Sum 776006 . I attached the bushing pic again. thanks!
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-776006/applications/make/buick 73-87 GM cars. Your car is a 70-72. Wrong application.
Larry, Application seems to list 66 thru 72 model Skylarks. I have similar bushings on mine( Energy Suspension), and I did use the washers for added support.
OK, I see that now. Why is he having so much trouble? The only thing I can think of is the rear end is moving around. When I changed out my control arms, I put jack stands under the frame, then my floor jack under the nose of the pumpkin. I had to alternately raise and lower the jack to get the bolt holes to line up. Maybe that is what is going on.
Yup, or someone could have collapsed or squished the arm ends removing the old bushings/ shells? I know some of the spacers have a flat cut side that has to be positioned correctly.
