'70 GS hardtop. Packed up a bunch of tools & supplies to move the car to a new storage location, and on moving day the whole set of rear lamps (not including the side markers back there) had quit, at some point that week. Only had a few short chances to figure the problem out since then, but I've nearly disassembled the rear bumper harness to search for trouble. I'm almost ready to buy a new harness but unsure that will fix, please give me ideas if you can! I feel fairly inexperienced with DC wiring, maybe I need a quick clue... -no tail, no brake, no turn, but the side markers light up -fuses appear good, ground on RH lamp looks good too -can a bad lamp socket cause the whole set to look bad? -can it be a switch up front, separately running some tails without others? thanks, guys
There is a plug that the rear tail light harness goes into. Are you sure its plugged in? And if so, is there power to the end of the plug?
Pull the fuses out and look at them. Easy to pull them out with a cheap plastic fuse puller. Do you have a circuit tester? They are cheap and well worth the money. Get one with a long cord. https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/W29...PO_3alJvBC9i5MYuB0BLdAU5njoZVrpxoCcOIQAvD_BwE
The fuses look nice, I replaced one, forgot which but maybe tail lamp fuse, no change. I’ve worked on a few spots that looked bad just replacing butt connectors or adding them, no change. My circuit tester may be worn badly, or I may be bad at using it haha…either way no lamps but the rear side markers so far
Unfortunately, there is no way to fix this without basic diagnostic skills (no offense). The first step is to check for power at the rear tail light harness plug. Depending on that answer, we can move forward
In the trunk, left side (drivers side). There is a plug that goes thru the trunk by the left side tail lamp. Plugs in from underneath
Hi Buick64203 Can you clarify where that plug is? I see one inside the trunk left side almost to back seat firewall sheeting.. It has orange and white wires.
Open the trunk and look just inside the trunk above where the left side taillight is. You will see a round rubber plug. On the other side of that plug is where the tail light harness plugs in. Plugs in from underneath. Do you have a problem with your lights?
