Really dumb question.

While on my learning curve in general about the Buick 350 and it being hard to source parts for it.
Could a chevy 350 just be thrown in the car if one (not me) just wanted a good motor with more parts availability? I would think the trans fits and carbs and intakes are not a huge thing to get right to use a Chevy 350?

Lots of things to change...wiring, cooling, transmission, etc. Not just a drop in and go.

Brad is correct. Yes one could drop a Chevy 350 in a Buick but as stated there are a lot of other things that need to be changed. The trans cases between Buick, Olds, and Pontiac (BOP Case) are different than the Chevy trans case. So that would need to be switched as well. Also I believe the fuel lines are on different sides from a Chevelle (not sure where they are on the other A-body Gms) to a Buick. Not sure on fuel pump location.

So lots more to it than opening the summit catalog and picking up the phone.

Yeah, easier to source sbb 350 parts than swapping a sbc in. On the other hand, a BBB(big block Buick) is a WAY easier swap with plenty of aftermarket parts made for it and they make plenty of power!

This is true! One of the reasons I am doing this swap. You will need to still switch some parts but it is easier than a SBC, since more stuff jives between the SBB & BBB.

While you are some distance away from me, you're not at the other end of the country. If interested and if you can figure out a way to get it I have a complete, excellent running `73 Buick 350 with 53,000 original miles. Brackets, pulleys, flexplate, everything. It even has a TA aluminum Stage 1 intake on it. It has been out of the car for 3 years now but is stored in a climate controlled warehouse. PM if you're interested. I have some other 350 parts as well, new motor mounts, a new water pump, almost new 600cfm Holley carb, and also have a `72 short block that was running great but had over 100,000 miles. I sold the heads and intake a couple years ago. I'd have to look around here and see what else I have that I've forgotten about but I'd make you a package deal on everything and may even entertain meeting you part way.

Never had a problem getting Buick 350 parts. Heck, half of my engine came from Autozone.

well looks like lesson learned for me on this thread. Thought things would be more the same between them.

By the time you find and change everything needed to accommodate a chebby, you’ll have been better off sourcing the slightly harder to find Buick parts. Plus you won’t have a chebby engine in your Buick.

I figured they were the same as far as plug and play at least. I am content with the orig motor, more curious thinking that someday the motor will poop the bed and the Chevy motor being more readily avail.
