ummm, Chris? Perhaps you really meant WHEELZ?? Anyway, the VIN tags, complete numbers matching drivetrain, engine frame pads/mounts, manifolds and any perifferal identification was sold to a fello V8 clubmember in Wisconsin...I had planned on using this chassis for my 65 GS Vert resto....but I need the money NOW more than the chassis...IF I can find the information on fello who bought all the stuff, I will ask him to register the numbers on your site. :beer Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Hey Gregory..ALL thats left is the CHASSIS! and YES, it is SOLID. It is Boxed. It is straight. It is surface scale rust ONLY. It IS a rolling chassis on 4 wheels/tires. IT IS available for $750. :TU:

..and BOB?, GranSportSedan...Yea I know. I tossed about the idea of selling the VIN stuff..but the fello assured me he had SAVED a 65 GS from the crusher at some Wisconsin salvage yard and never had got title for it...:Dou: He is going to revive it back to health. THE car I parted was going to get crushed as well....it was NOT RESTORABLE anyway.... so, someone out there will be resurrecting an original 65 GS and putting ONE back on the road. Saving another 65 GS from extinction is Ok, right?
Still, I see BOTH SIDES of the coin...its wrong. Its not wrong. :Do No:
I'm not doing it so I'll let somebody else decide. :Smarty:
..and thats all I'm going to say about that. :TU:

Thanks Wheelz.. this should be enough information to enter a listing in the registry.

If you don't mind, I'll put the entry under your name as the last owner since we don't have the new owner’s name.

Sorry if this stirred the pot a little with some folks, that was not my intent. I have my personal feelings about re-bodying or cloning a car that I'll share in a few...

One interesting point I'd like to make first is that in the past whenever this discussion has come up with buddies over a beer, the one question that always comes up is, how much car can actually be replaced before it's no longer "correct".

As we all know, most of the nice cars tearing up the streets (or car shows) today have had either NOS, fabricated or reproduction parts installed at some point in their life. Think of all the fenders, hoods, doors or quarters (sometimes all of the above) that have been swapped around. This is typically very normal and often needed in order to bring a car back to tip / top quality (usually over restored).

It seems that most folks draw the line and say that a car must retain its original cowl, engine, tranny and frame to claim "matching numbers status" however as we all know, these parts are replaced every day when the originals are beyond repair.

How many parts are allowed to be replaced before it loses its "original" status?

My point is that we all have our limits as to what is acceptable and these limits can change when buying as an investment, racing or summer cruiser. The key is that we know what we are buying and I agree that the VIN numbers should be recorded as so when belonging to a parted out car. If the owner tells the truth about the history of the car, then there is no harm done.

I personally believe that anyone can spend their money in any way that brings them happiness (buyer and seller) however when it's time to sell the car, it's the owners responsibility to disclose the documentation and the history of the car and let the buyer decide what they are willing to live with.

The buyer has this same responsibility when they part from the car and if at some point someone would knowingly fail to present this history, it becomes fraud and this should become an issue for the courts to decide upon (hopefully they get the chair). :af: :TU:

From what I've seen, anyone trying to clone for profit has a bottom line to maintain and the car typically ends up showing the many shortcuts that are taken and important (expensive) details from the factory are often left out. When viewing the finished product, multiple things just don't show up as correct and most of us stay clear, but for those in doubt or simply new to the year or model, please educate yourselves before spending the big dollars or ask those in the hobby that are known as the experts for that particular make of car.

I think this is less of a problem with our Buicks and a bigger problem with the high dollar Mopars and Exotic / Classic cars where the bottom line is much larger and much more can be spent on the detail. Of course, registries help keep track of the original cars as the cars and the owners become known. This will help protect the future Buick owners as our cars continue to climb in price and cloning them may become more profitable.

Oh well... just my two cents since Wheelz had asked. :beer

wheelz,I guess I didn't make my self clear i'm interessted in just the bare frame,no rear end no front subs.are interested in that?

  11. wheelz

    wheelz 'B' is for Buick.

Greg..SORRY ABOUT THAT :spank: ... I misunderstood what you meant. SO now, if you want ME to pull apart the chassis so you can buy just the "frame" ie: remove the suspension and rear end, brake and fuel lines etc.... you can buy just the frame for $950. Otherwise, you buy it as a roller for $750! YOU come and get it either way. Yea I know it sounds backwards, but removing/stripping all the periferrals to get to just the bare frame YOU WANT, takes time. BTW where are you? Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Gregory...unfortunately, the BPG event In Columbus OH is going to have to go on without me again this year. Finances are bearing down hard on us once more. Never-Fear tho...Ted McKinney, from my area, is always making trips here'n there...it is always a possibility that he could throw the chassis on the back of some'n? and haul it to somewhere close to you...If you are serious, and you are a cash buyer, you and I should talk and try to arrange something in the very near future. :TU: Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Hey Gregory! FIRST AND FOREMOST... BEFORE we move onto HOW to make a deal happen, WHICH WE CAN MAKE HAPPEN :TU: ...WE need to ASK to see if the differences in 65 vs 66 chassis are significant?? I HONESTLY DONT KNOW....so, why not post it to the board for feedback...once its learned IF it will work for you, THEN, we can move in a DEAL MAKING direction! Sounds like a good plan?? :Smarty: Wheelz, :bglasses: Tampa bay

A '66 will fit on a '65 frame. The two frames are most likely identical. Any '64-'67 Buick frame will fit your car. The subtle changes (rear spring pockets & crossmember cushions) took place in '67 and will NOT affect you since you will be moving parts from your old frame to the new one. And have spare parts since you are buying a roller!

To clarify the differences: In '67 the rear springs have a different top opening so the frame changed to accomodate them. Also in '67, the crossmember (NOT the mounting points) changed from directly mounted to the frame ('64-'66) to having rubber cushions on the ends of the crossmember that are bracketed to the frame.

I bought a '65 GS frame for my '67 convertible. I just had to buy the '64-'66 rear springs instead of the '67-'72s. As for the crossmember, I get to decide which to use since I now have both.

    Hope this helps.
