how does everybody pack the front spindle bearings, I always pull the drum or rotor wipe off the spindle then put some grease in the palm of my hand and run the outer bearing face thru it front and back with pressure but the inner is still sealed I just put some grease on the fingers and reach in the cavity and pack some into the bearing then lightly grease the spindle, so how many pull the seal on routine repacking

Lisle bearing packer. Works like a charm. You put the bearing in and squeeze.

I always pull the rear bearing and seal to inspect it. I remove the front bearing and then screw the castle nut back on. Then pull the rotor. The castle nut hooks the rear bearing and seal. So when you yank the rotor, the rear bearing and seal are hanging on the spindle.

I normally put the bearings in a tub of mineral spirits and clean then. Then give them a shot of compressed air. Once they pass inspection, they go in the bearing packer.

I give the spindle a coat of grease and give the rotor an extra "splop" of grease in the center. Snug up the castle nut, back off to the next hole and install a NEW cotter pin. Always err on the side of loose than tight. A loose bearing will run all day. A bearing that's too tight will fail quickly.

When I was in the USAF, back in the old days, used to repack aircraft wheel bearings the same as auto spindle bearings (same thing, different size).

Place a glob of grease on wax broan paper (same thing we wrapped extra bearings in) and just move the bearing around in a fast, tight circle.

Filled them lickity split and completely. When your doing a pile of them, it makes for fast work.

And what you said about packing the hub, that is proper.

I did full bearing and race removal on my drums about 1500 miles ago but I am getting ready for another 1,000 miles so as being anal or bored I pulled em and did a refresh but never used the bearing squeeze it does look like a good tool,,, I do maintain 4 heavy pieces of equipment and 2 big rigs also. plus 12 cars and 4 pick ups
