I’m in for a couple. I like your set up - testing! Great job.
Cool set up should be interesting.
Had to move a bunch of stuff but got a spare engine on the stand to get a base line number to determine restriction size for testing complete covers off of an engine.
Just wondering, Won't the size of the long thru the block oil passage, right angle turn, & short passage to the pickup come into play for testing?
Only looking at output. The intake side is a lazy river in comparison. The flow is lower. Once the bypass opens lots of oil just recirculates within the pump/filter.
Just for grins I plugged the output completely. The drill was really pulling hard and it made 67 PSI (60PSI spring) just recirculating thru the pump. No oil going in or out of the reservoir.
I have found the sweet spot for the testing restriction and this cover is done. Testing complete. If this cover does not give you proper oil pressure you would have internal engine problems.
The end clearance is .002".
Lookin good Steve, .002 is a good benchmark clearance. You da man!
Awesome! So are they on sale now?
Theyre all assembled yes? Are you gonna put a neoprene seal on it? Put me down for one. $250 shipped?
(Even if it doesnt solve my current engine's issues, I'll still use it on my next motor with the AL heads and what not)
1 is done. starting on the second.
$250 with a rebuildable core. Core charge is $50 if yours is not usable or you do not have one. I suggest leaving the water pumpand oil pump on as I have ways to get the bolts off without breaking them. This saves me work. If it turns out the water pump cavity is corroded too much to reuse it will be returned if you request. Not trying to make it difficult, just fair for both of us.
Completely assembled with neoprene seal ready for installation, not painted as not everyone uses the same color. You will need to match up the correct distributor hold down as there are a couple different styles.
Awesome! I actually have 3 cores I could send you (2 of which ran fine, 3rd is condition unknown), would that help with the price of one reman? I can PM you if you want!
Patrick, best to send a PM. Thanks
Excited to get mine.
Going out today. Sending a PM soon
The second cover is complete. Testing showed the exact same results of the first cover. This cover has .0025" clearance. It is date coded for a 1970 engine.
The third cover will also be done by next weekend. Then will be waiting for cores.
I will be making a new post detailing what I've learned from the testing of these pumps/covers during bench testing. Some surprises I didn't expect. Also more things I want to tryout.
Anyone needing cover #2? $250 plus a usable core or add $50.
All covers are cleaned, deburred, oil pump cover refaced, new pump gears, rubber crank seal, oil filter, all threaded holes good or repaired. Ready to bolt on.
Hi Steve.if you need some cores,I have around 8 cores to sell.Bruno.
So it this deal comparable to the setup TA sells with their front cover ready to go? Other than using an OEM cover and being cheaper?
TA iirc enlarges the passages and includes a wear plate and adjustable pressure regulator. And costs an extra $150. Anyone can do it with enough patience. Finding good covers is the hard part.
It's a complete cover assembled using a seasoned core. Assembled correctly with minimal clearance.
