Gents. I have purchased this http://www.genesisautoparts.com/all_aluminum_radiator-buick-wildcat-1968-7.0l_v8_430.htm and i'm going to replace it with the leaking one in my cat. But i have newer tried to replace a radiator before, so now the question's is: Is it advisable to drain all the water of the motor, or can i "just" clamp the lover cooling hose and "reuse" the water. If the system is drained, do I have to flush the system, if so with what and why. During the replacement is there anything where i have to pay special attention to. And last but not least, is there any special spare parts / tools required ?o No: Yep gents i know that was a lot of questions but i rather ask before the job than after i fu..ed something up. Tanks in advance lads.
Re: Radiator replacement quistions The coolant needs periodic changing. So I would do it at this time. The flush is optional and not mamdatory. Inspect the condition of the upper and lower hose. This is th best time to make the change, if neeed. I cannot think of any special tools that are needed. I would Keep the old radiator. Many owners want the original Harrison radiator so the car looks original.
Re: Radiator replacement quistions I might recommend using flare nut wrenches to remove the transmission cooler lines, if you have them. Regular wrenches can round off flare nuts in a hurry. Dispose of the old coolant properly, its an environmental hazard.
Re: Radiator replacement quistions when im about to do something ive never done before i just start tearing it apart without thinking about it. you will get it back together, a radiator swap is pretty straightforward.
Re: Radiator replacement quistions Lonnie, I take it you are NOT into bomb disposal, or any other "OOPS- that's not gonna work" related field?
Re: Radiator replacement quistions Heck no I'm not into bomb disposal although I have turned a few car parts into a bomb with this method, seems I remember something with a cutting torch and a ball joint. But thats all I remember...
